I trust you guys on PriceScope more than the ones trying to sell the diamonds to me.

I have norrowed my selection down to 2 diamonds and really would like to hear your comments on the two.

First one is $4535

Carat 1.01
Color G
Clarity SI1
Cut Grade Excellent
Finish
Polish Very Good
Symmetry Very Good
Fluorescence None

Table 56%
Depth 61.9%
Crown Angle 35
Pavillion Angle 40.8
Cutlet None

However, in talks with the on-line broker they told me this about the inclusions.
**********************************************************************************************************
This stone is eye clean from both 8 and 25cm. The inclusion that is located in the table is both black and white (90% white). There is an indented natural located on the girdle, but it cannot be seen without magnification and is in such a location that it does not detract from the performance of the diamond and can easily be covered by a prong. This diamond performs very well and I would recommend this stone to anyone interested in buying a diamond.
**********************************************************************************************************

Diamond #2 is $5000

Carat 1.08 (Larger)
Color H (a little worse)
Clarity SI1 (same)
Cut Grade Excellent (same)
Finish
Polish Excellent (better)
Symmetry Excellent (better)
Fluorescence None (same)
Table 59%
Depth 60.2%
Crown Angle 32.5
Pavillion Angle 41.2
Cutlet none

Please help me decide!

Where are the inclusions on the second stone?

You also need to get the mm dimensions of the stones to really know which one is "bigger" ... weight doesn''t equate to visual size exactly.

Have you tried entering the info into the Holloway Cut Advisor ... found in Pricescope''s Tools section? That''s one way to independently "rate" two stones against each other purely from a "cut" perspective.

I wouldn''t worry about GIA "H" color ... I have an H Asscher and love it... never seen any "tint" or had any regrets!

So here is the math...

$ ct. $/ct Rap % Rap

4535 1.01 $4,490 5900 77% G SI1

5000 1.08 $4,630 5700 88% H SI1

The G looks like a winner but....... if it is a poor G or SI1 all bets are off.

I like the numbers on the G better.

So here is the correct math...

(% of Rap incorrect in previous post, all else is the same)

$ ct. $/ct Rap % Rap

4535 1.01 $4,490 5900 76% G SI1

5000 1.08 $4,630 5700 81% H SI1

The G looks like a winner but....... if it is a poor G or SI1 all bets are off.

The inclusions on the second stone are a few clouds and a feather towards the middle of the table. However no black carbon.

How big of a deal is that carbon in a stone?

Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Excellent
Spread or diameter for weight Very Good

Diamond 2 Color H

Light Return Very Good
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread or diameter for weight Excellent

any other comments?

I also like the #s on the G stone better.

ETA, rap is usually considered a sellers tool - use the pricescope your diamond feature to compare prices. If you have access to The Guide (used by appraisers), you can also get a good idea from that - usually though the PS your diamond feature is your best bet.

In my opinion, the 1st diamond is definitely the better of the two. The table and depth are ideal (in my opinion) and the crown and pavilion angle should make for excellent light performance. I''m also partial to G-colors over Hs. And, the price is better. The inclusion report seems fine to me (but I''m sure others on this forum can speak more to that). If it were me, I would choose the 1st, even if the prices were the same.
