Help needed RE:Book reader/Kindle

Techie help needed...My FIL gave me a Sony E-Reader for Christmas. I am trying to purchase "Kindle" books on Amazon for several reasons (better selection, less expensive, and the ability to be able to lend/borrow from others). It won't let me purchase without registering my Kindle. Does anyone know how to buy Kindle books for a different brand of book reader?

I just got a different e-reader for xmas and I was able to download the Kindle app..then sign on with my amazon acct..and get books off of kindle. I'm so not a techie and just followed the prompts....I wish I had something to help you.

With a Sony reader you will not be able to purchase e-books on Amazon. There are lots of other sources for e-books that can be read on Sony including some public libraries allow e-lending onto the Nook. Try kobobooks.com...DH uses that one a lot for his Nook and my Sony reader.

I think if you download the kindle app for PC you should be able to buy amazon ebooks. Then you could use a free ebook conversion software like calibre http://calibre-ebook.com/ to convert the ebook from moby(kindle format) to one your sony ereader could read (like pdf? or epub?).

I have a kindle, but use the conversion software all the time.

You would need to convert them for them to work, Kindle uses a proprietary format that can't be used directly with other e-readers.
