Hi everyone. I am new to this website and really have learned alot from all of your threads. Thanks for the wealth of information. I was hoping that someone could give me some advice on a diamond. Can you tell me what you guys think of this diamond, pertaining to the depth and table dimensions? I've seen from some other sites it slightly off in depth by 1%. Does that make a difference? THanks!

Depth and table is good, but will need all the rest of the information on the GIA report to get a rough idea on the cut of the stone. Depth can be anything less than 62.3% if the other proportion works well together. The most important thing are the table, crown and pavilion angles.

Ditto, can you post that info please?

That is borderline, probably will have leakage unless the cutter is really good and GIA round all the numbers the wrong way. JA will be able to get you an Idealscope image for this stone to confirm this.

Weird, so I put these measurements into the HCA Calculator, says that is very good. How come it is rated Ideal cut by GIA standards?

Factor Grade
Light Return Very Good
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good

Thanks StoneCold. Wow, these tools are amazing. Sounds like AGS is a much better grading lab than GIA. Thanks.

GIA Ex grade allows for stone that do not not have optimal return returns so do not buy just based on their cut grading.

I will fix the link then take a look for you,

This diamond is what is called a steep deep, GIA Excellent cut grade can allow for such angle combos which in borderline cases such as this can sometimes be less effective at returning light, leakage is often the result of such angles, therefore an Idealscope image is essential in order to evaluate these diamonds for leakage.

Also just a FYI, GIA's highest cut grade is excellent, there is no GIA Ideal cut.

Thanks everyone for the info. I've requested the Idealscope. Would it be a safer bet to get a AGS0 Ideal certified diamond instead? Thanks for the info about GIA not having Ideal cuts. So much terminology is making my head spin. Thanks!
