I feel like Ill never find a ring, I always find something better or different that gets me off track for a few weeks. I think my girlfriends style is halo, white gold or platinum maybe??? Judging by her jewellery. Id like something 1 cart plus I guess color K or better, ideal or ex cut, vs1 or better (i think). Is it more cost effective to get the diamond and ring separate?

Also, my girlfriend is very petite 5'2" maybe 100#. She has very small hands I traced the inside of two rings which I'm not sure what to do with now.

all of her jewelry looks gold tone? am i incorrect there?
could just be the lighting.

Also her stuff looks a bit earthy, would you agree or no?

besides those photos, does she have a pinterest page she has pinned rings too?

Very earthy. She does not have Pinterest and it must be the lighting.

Ok so the width of the outline is about 1.5cm so I think thats a 4.5?

I would go round in a solitaire to be safe. She can always do a different setting later.

Ok so yes, it is gold tone.

With that in mind, is there a reason you think she wants white metal? Not yellow or rose gold?

Because none of her rings are gold, I guess I'm not really sure but I feel like we have talked about this before. And I'm afraid rose is kind of trendy.

Ok I'd she has told you white of course go white I just assumed you were basing it on the photos provided and the photos provided don't look like a woman who wants a platinum halo. Looks like something with a gold band with floral accents.

Would you be open to shapes other than round or its definitely round

No, I only say that because her friend is telling me to get biggest I can. So my thinking is a halo might at least make it appear bigger. Her friend talked me out of a Tiffany that was over priced in her opinion.

have you seen K colored diamonds in white gold or platinum in person? It's not going to look white, you'll see the tint from the side. In an engagement ring, you need to be really sure she is OK with a K color. Yellow or rose gold would be more flattering to a faintly tinted stone as well.

Check out some of these resources first and if you can, go down to a jewelry store and look at some GIA graded stones from G-K and see how you feel.

Can you feel out her friend some more about what style of ring? When she says "bigger is better" is she speaking for herself or your intended? Because setting means more to some women than the size of the stone. She has a pretty earthy/organic feel in her jewelry and unless you go for a floral type of halo (which is risky) i'm not sure a halo is her taste. I'd feel her out too about the metal color. i see very few pieces in white gold/silver and just by judging from her jewelry, yellow gold would be a safer pick. Rose gold IS trendy but it is beautiful on many women and i think looks very classy.

Ok I think I've got a good sense of what you're after.

Her look is a bit earthy so I don't think something with a bit of a floral element would be a bad idea. You want some design in the band, but we want as big a diamond we can muster (while still being pretty) and in white metal.

I think that's doable. I'll look and report back

I personally like the rose gold look, but I also like the idea of a black diamond. So I clearly can't be trusted.

No on the stone and the K you had posted, they're a little deep. I do like the setting tho. Wait for Neil, you'll get some EXCELLENT recommendations on stones and settings.

also, based on your choices, is $5k for the stone alone? Your total with the BN stone and setting is right at $6200 so what is your ALL IN budget?

this made me laugh! i think if she wears a lot of rose gold, it could be a good option.

I love JbG and tend to check there. Would a vintage ring be a problem? I'm with Niel, from the couple of photos you provided I'm not seeing a large diamond in a halo type of person. Your girlfriend's jewellery is bold, chunky, colourful and would be very noticeable. Not that that means she can't prefer the opposite of that for an engagement ring.

This one is a large diamond in a floral style yellow gold setting www.jewelsbygrace.com/rings/vintage-antique/1-07ct-antique-transitional-cut-diamond-solitaire

Fun and funky and similar to some of her jewellery yellow gold halo www.jewelsbygrace.com/rings/vintage-inspired/1-15ct-antique-oval-cut-diamond-chunky-bezel-ring

Closer to what you see in bridal magazines and jewellery shops, large white diamond on diamond band www.jewelsbygrace.com/rings/estate-modern/95ct-old-european-cut-diamond-solitaire-egl-h-vs1

And a three stone, just because her friend said large doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be single stone...not that the centre is at all small at 0.86 carats www.jewelsbygrace.com/rings/estate-modern/1-80ctw-old-european-cut-diamond-3-stone-ring

Okay so she likes a chunky look. I think we can get creative with shapes. Maybe a nice bezel. I am thinking Sholdt and Maevona. Okay. Gimme a minute.

Ok, so here are a few thoughts on settings that kind of combine the bold/chunky/floral elements I saw in her stuff. Some are more vintage/floral, and others are more modern/bold.

https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/jeff-cooper/14k-white-gold-lola-engagement-ring-item-54229

Some of the more modern options, but still have the "flow".

ETA: Meavonna would be another designer to keep in mind given her preferences.

ETA2: Didn't see Gypsy's post already mentioning that designer. whoops! I like this setting for its floral elements. They also have options with diamonds on the shank, or the shank engraved, but they are slightly more expensive. http://www.maevona.com/engagement-rings-c-4/fern-prd-mva43-fer/

I wouldn't do the James Allen ones.

I would do one of these.

The Cora, already listed, is beautiful. I have tried it on and it looks like a setting that is three times the price: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/pave-and-side-stones/cora-sholdt-14k-white-gold-5767w14

Alternately, the Irids oval would work and would give you a big look and a quality setting that no one else will have: http://www.maevona.com/engagement-rings-c-4/halo-styles-c21/iris-dia-oval-prd-mva60-iri-dia-ov/ or this one: http://www.maevona.com/engagement-rings-c-4/halo-styles-c21/

Those are my top two for your lady. With the Sholdt being my first choice for her.

Gypsy, which setting did you link for the second Maevona? It just sent me to a listing of settings. and i had to lol! I was thinking of the Sholdt Cora and Maevona Snowdrop settings for the OP.

to the OP, check out the below pictures of the Sholdt Cora, it's really gorgeous in Rose Gold

For the Sholdt you can do this stone: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/0.830-j-si1-round-diamond-ags-104088433012#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/2/ That gives you a 6mm stone. And comes in under budget with the Cora. That's a really nice, big look in a beautiful setting. If you want to squeeze out a little more size BGD can find you a GIA K at 90 points probably for your budget.

For the Maevona, I would go for this: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/O81-3Z64Z6Z61 Which gives you a 7x5 stone with a gorgeous setting no one else will have. Or this one if you want a full carat: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/O100-2560Z5031

Both diamonds are under budget with the setting. Both will have great performance for their shapes, and both would be great choices for your lady.
