Thanks to the members on this forum, I have expanded my knowledge of diamonds and gained valuable insight in what to look for.

I wanted to ask for advice in considering between two round 1.4 H diamonds based on the proportions and HCA. Both are GIA triple excellent, 1.41 carat, VS1, and no fluorescence. I was leaning toward choosing the HCA 2.0 60/60, since it would look bigger from the top and the angles seem good. Both diamonds are/were listed on Lumera (so no idealscope or images). My jeweler would have to order them directly.

Diamond 1 (60/60)
HCA 2.0
depth 60.4%
table 60%
crown angle 34.5
pavilion angle 40.8
girdle: medium-slightly thick 4.0%

Diamond 2
HCA 1.6
depth 62.5%
table 57%
crown angle 36
pavilion angle 41
girdle: medium-slightly thick 3.5%

Check numbers on #2. 36/41 is not going to have HCA of 1.6

Hi Bootleg and welcome!

Jules is right, the second stone is not going to score 1.6 HCA with those proportions, I much prefer the proportions of the 60 60, as far as can be told without images, it does look promising. The second diamond could show light leakage which you don't want, plus it's a touch deeper than I personally prefer. I think your instincts are right in leaning towards the first diamond.

Just chiming in to say I did the numbers and number 2 scores a 5.5 on the HCA for me.

Oh I apologize! For Diamond 2, I had the wrong GIA report in front of me. I am not sure if an HCA of 2.0 vs 1.6 would be that significant of a difference. Is it likely that jewelers carry idealscopes, Sarin, or ASET? (I am located in Northern Virginia.)

Diamond 2's Correct Proportions

depth 61.6%
table 58%
crown angle 34
pavilion angle 41
girdle 4%

Both sets of numbers are fine.

That's more like it Btb, thanks for running the HCA on that one!
