I''m having my future fiancee''s ring made at my family''s jeweler and I''ve just decided that I need to push up the proposal date to Friday. My jeweler said they ring should be done no problem and she''ll be able to overnight it to me.

I know most people recommend registered mail, but unfortunately I dont have the time for that. I''ve done some searches and from what I understand FedEx and UPS don''t cover jewelry.

The ring is insured with Jeweler''s Mutual, will they cover it?

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

If the jeweler isn't set up with shipping insurance coverage, then your best bet is to have him send it UPS overnight, insured by UPS.

UPS will insure finished jewelry pieces (not loose stones) up to $50,000.

Also, the US Post Office will insure up to $5,000 on express mail overnight packages.

Jeweler's Mutual will not cover it unless there was a prior policy set up with shipping coverage included. It would be unusual to have this rider except on jewelry store policies.

USPS does have their express mail. But on occasion, this can take up to couple of days depending on your location---the limit is $5,000 allowable by this method--Been there

The USPS Priority/Registered which reportedly takes 2-3 days has a limits up to $25,000. A word of caution if you in need the ring by Friday. This method has been known to take a tad longer--up to a week to 10 days for delivery--been there.

UPS has their limit I believe of $5,000.But they are lightening fast with overnight urgent shipping.

Thanks for the info!

I'll check with her today and see if she has coverage for it. Otherwise it looks like UPS, I'll have to clarify if its $5,000 or 50,000 with them since the ring is ~$20,000.
