The question: why did this stone get demoted to VG cut grade?
(I assume 4.5% girdle thickness at kite/main meets based on Facetware, which kicks it back up to EX if you drop thickness to 4%, but I can't find any other supporting documentation. In fact the one doc I did find looks to permit 4.5% in the EX range!)

From Makhro's threads:

Report: http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?reportno=2101878626&c=Page&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&pagename=GIA%2FDispatcher&cid=1355954554547

How old is the certificate? Its interesting it got bumped down to VG on the girdle thickness, I thought they were getting their act together and allowing a slightly wider or more flexible level of specs in via grading provided the stone still performed in every other area these days....

ETA:

For anyone else following this - John P. just responded in Makhro's original thread, so now that my virtual hand-waving has succeeded let's take the discussion back there ::)

Yssie - Answered in the thread you linked.
Indeed it was an odd one. The girdle thickness just pushes past what's allowed for EX.

Apologies for that! The reason the Facebook logo was in the prior post was my wife, reading over my shoulder asking "Is this the one person in the world who isn't your FB friend? ... I added it to snark her, and was going to delete it before I posted. But there it was. :halo:

Hi Yssie,

At this moment our Sarin is enroute back to our lab. When it arrives I'm going to scan this in our Sarin HD machine and find out precisely why. There are plenty of GIA Ex's out there with slightly thick girdles so I wouldn't rush to judgment because of that.

Kind regards,
Rhino

Can't imagine what I miss by NOT being on Facebook.

It was tough to go but I suffered no withdrawal symptoms. :D

...I promised John in the other thread that I'd hold off on crossing my arms and harrumphing until you get your scanner back ::)

I love sushi! Even cheap sushi is better than no sushi.. but I confess to finding establishments with in-house tanks somewhat macabre
