HELP!! MEASUREMENTS!!

I have noticed that measurements are important, I guess? I am so new to this! Why do measurements matter? I thought it was just weight. Hmmm. I have notice that smaller weights have higher measurements than mine. How is this possible? Thanks for all the help and advice!!

Here are my measurements:

5.40 x 5.31 x 4.40

Are these meaurements normal for a 1.25 ct? My 1.25 ct looks very small...

Yes, Kathio, it sounds as though you have a very deep stone. My 0.7 carat Ideal cut measures 5.77 x 5.75 x 3.49mm. Yours should be 6.9 or so across. I'm wondering if the carat weight is not 1.25. You should probably have it appraised (if you haven't already).

I hope you're talking about a princess cut stone... The depth is 82.2%... Which is something unheard of for a round brilliant and still very deep for a princess cut.

A well made 1.25 round should be about 6.9 x 6.9 x 4.3 mm.

This most likely is a princess cut diamond - an average cut at best. For a 1.25 ct princess, one would still expect it to be somewhere near the 6.00 x 6.00 x 4.00 range.

It is a princess cut. I am so upset at what I am finding out. I am going to the jeweler he purchased it from and requesting a new diamond. Wish me luck!
