Hello,

I am shopping for a engagement ring, and I found 2 diamonds that I love. The ring will be a classic "Tiffany style", in 18k yellow gold. My wedding band is also in yellow gold.

One of the diamonds has strong blue fluorescence, which, after much reading, I believe to be an interesting thing.

Here are the specs, would be glad to here some opinions ;-)

I don''t like number two as much, the numbers don''t look complimentary to me. Number one is promosomg, but you cannot say for complete certainty without seeing a picture or IS image. But Blue nile cannot give those. Still, I think AGSO is a pretty safe cut grade and with VS1/VS2 you don''t need to worry about inclusions.

To even begin to evaluate this stone you need to post the crown and pavilion angles or you can enter them into the HCA yourself to get an idea of how they might fare.
Of course to really evaluate with any confidence you will need IS (at least) and ASET images.

If none of what I just said makes sense to you then you DEFINITELY want to start out in the PS Knowledge section here:

Jet2ks,

I like the 2nd one!

I read some not so good reviews about this web site, and also when I tried to pick a setting (add to ring), it displays a nasty error message.

Outatoouch,

I'll try to input numbers on the HCA, and then post here, tks.

Meanwhile I found another possibility:

Numbers could be good, could be poor. Generally 35/41 isn't ideal, but the 80lgf could balance out likelihood of leakage. Need images for this one (which BN won't provide), so in the interests of time and sanity I'd say skip it and look for something safer.

Chriscat, to evaluate any diamonds we need crown and pavilion angles (generally not included in these comparison summaries). The cert image is then the only way to get them, so it would be very helpful if you can post cert. links. I recognize the vendor, so I could find them easily enough, but searching is not always the easiest thing on some websites.

Go with a vendor you are comfortable with. In regards to the error message, James Allen has just recently updated the pages with their settings. It is possible they do not have all the bugs worked out on the links yet.

+1. Though I would have no problem trusting JA with my own project, personally

I''ll post a link to the certificates, meanwhile I will insert numbers on HCA.
Thank you for all replies, they are extremely helpful.
The JA 2k diamond I like bc it has a medium blue flu, although the size is nice too, but not my major concern. I would like something around 1.8-2.0 carats, with excellent cut and all other certificate attributes, color J and VS1 or VS2.

So diamond 1:

From the numbers, #1, #3 and the JA stone look promising.

You can ask JA for an idealscope image of that stone.

So I did the HCA analysis and here is what I found:

BL1:

Light Return: Ex
Fire: Ex
Scintillation: Vg
Spread: Vg

Total Visual Performance: 1.6 (Ex)

BL2:

LR: Vg
F: G
Sc: G
Sp: Vg

TVP: 3.8

BL3:

LR: Vg
F: Vg
Sc: Vg
Sp: Vg

TVP: 2.4

JA1:

LR: Ex
F: Ex
Sc: Vg
Sp: Vg

TVP: 1.6

From this tool analysis, BL1 and JL1 are the best options. I will ask for the JL1 image :)

Glad to see you are progressing along.
Just to reiterate, if I don''t someone else will and for your benefit of course, IS images are needed for a proper evaluation. The numbers only help to narrow down v. weed out stones that merit further investigation.

Progress! I got the Idealscope image for the JA1 diamond, which has the following HCA results:

LR: Ex
F: Ex
Sc: Vg
Sp: Vg

TVP: 1.6

I asked also for the image of another diamond that interested me, and I will post asap. Meanwhile, I would most welcome and be grateful for your thoughts on this one:

Numbers and IS image look good to me. The lower half is on the large side, thus the thinner arrow shafts, will give a more splintery look, some like it some don''t.

I got a diamond today!

It was none of the options above, but when I saw the info, and after talking to SR, I felt it was the best option.

Good choice?

Looks promising, IS showed some leakage because the stone is tilted when the image is taken.

Yes, but still much less than the previous stone (JA1), which has more white areas around the girdle, right?

Here is the HCA:

Light Return Excellent
Fire Excellent
Scintillation Excellent
Spread Very Good
Total Visual Performance 1.5 - Excellent

The leakage near the girdle will almost always be there. It is the leakage under the table that we are concern about.

So you purchased the second one? Good choice, I like the arrow pattern better that way myself.

Yes I did!
The SR said he had that diamond reviewed and highly recommended it.
He said the Idealscope image was excellent, and I could observe that it is much closer to the ideal in the reference pictures from IS web site.
Also, I observed that the AGS certificate was 1 month old, while the other one (JA1-GIA) was an year old.

I hope I made the right decision, can''t wait to see the ring :)

I posted some pictures of the ring here!

I love it. Thank you so much for your valuable input, and to this great site, I could not be happier with my purchase!

It''s from James Allen, the AGS report is above.
