My 5 year old son is an avid rock collector and is asking Santa for a diamond for his collection. I'm thinking ebay and am looking for something around $100. Would prefer faceted, but it can have lots of inclusions. Anyone up for the challenge? Obviously since he is 5 we're looking for as big as we can get, but I'm quite aware it will be pretty small. Just want him to have a real diamond for his collection. He loves it! When we went to Wisconsin Dells this summer we had to go to the gem mining place twice he loved it so much.
:P

I like how the title is "Included white diamond..." :-D

With a stone like you are looking for I think you should call several of the vendors here. These are not the stones they might normally list on their sites, but I bet if you call around you will find several hidden treasures waiting for your son.

I kind of like the pear. Cheap, but with it being a pear shape it's not too small.

:appl:
Great job! I added a couple to my watch list. :D

Oh lord, I can't get him started on colored diamonds!

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to do that before I buy on ebay. Even if it is an ugly diamond, I'd like to be sure it is a diamond!

Looks like Ben is getting his diamond from Santa! Thanks to Wink. I'll post pics of the not so ugly ugly diamond when I get it!

:appl:

LOL... Wink's post cracked me up. About as close as "Gimme a call!" as you can get without breaking any rules! In this case, I think it is ok though ;)) I am really interested to see what you got for your son!

Hee hee. Wink to the rescue! I can't wait to see what Santa has for your little man!

hi Jax, I don't have any advice but just wanted to chime in because I fear I may be in the same boat in the next year or so. My 6 year old son has recently showed ALOT of interest in rocks. All the books he's been bringing home from the library has rock mining or the word rock in them. He's asked for a crystal making kit and DH has given him his old rock collection. So far his favorite is an amethyst but I wonder if a diamond will be on the list eventually. Good luck with the find... maybe we have a future vendor in the midst :)

You are in trouble! You need to see if there are any "mining" place near you. Most just give you a bucket of sand with rough gems mixed in that you pan for. It's a lot of fun for the rock collector though!

As for the future vendor, I can dream right?? He's got to give Mom a discount!

Here is the pic Wink sent me last night. As soon as I have it I'll take more pics. Will have to be after the monster goes to bed though. :)

I have a five gallon bucket of dirt from Crater of Diamonds park, should a vendor wish to have some for their educational collection.

jax do you have stats? :D

Yes, yes, stats please :appl: :appl: :appl:

It is not lab graded, but Wink pegged it at 0.66 I1 J-K color.

It's really nice and much prettier than I imagined being able to afford at this size. Ben will love it!

Some pics!

AWESOME!!!

It's prettier in person. Actually pretty sparkly, but I suck at pics! :angryfire:

He, he...Isn't a little devil inside you trying to convince you that you shouldn't give the stone to Ben but keep it for yourself?  :saint:

This post and a vendor's solution made my morning...
so cute that it was pulled off...

I know.. I've already been researching on some mining trips we can go a couple of years from now. He vacillates between going on a fossil dig or a gem/mineral dig. And yes.. mom's definitely should get a discount.

The stone is lovely by the way. Ben will be over the moon!

Jax.... since the first time I read your topic I think it's not a good idea to give a really ugly stone to your son.

If it was me, I would prefer to give him a small but acceptable SI quality diamond. You can have little beauty for 75$ or less you know!

Take a look at Ebay... there are plenty of .15 ct for around 50$. I would give it in a beautiful case and explain it's a true diamond and it's precious! You coud begin to educate your little boy to the beauty of this type of stone!

Just an idea you know Jax.... but.... is this possible you will have a gemmologist son in many years? Wahoooooooo! :appl:

This one give me a good impression: Start à .99 cents and no reserve. .15 ct SI3 clarity

 Nope, this is for him. He's already brought it up again so I think he will be very pleased to see it under the tree this year.
