Hello!

My boyfriend and I have been looking for rings, but I've decided after reading Pricescope to find something online. I'm new to this, so I would appreciate any advice as to how to go about getting a diamond and setting. I like antique-style cuts (August Vintage, etc.) as well as antique-inspired settings. Round shapes tend to be more flattering on my finger (size 6). $7,000 is what he can pay for the ring. I know you guys will come through for us!!! Thanks in advance!!

For my money, I would probably go to Engagement Rings Direct, for antique style diamonds as well as settings, and have heard many good things about them.

DK :))

What style of Antique ring do you like? Some of my suggestions would be emailing

Grace at Jewels By Grace;

Erica at Love Affair Diamonds;

And Adam at Old World Diamonds (best if you call him because he is slow to answer emails but wonderful on the phone);

Erica and Grace have new things coming in all the time and frequently sell them before they go on their website and Adam has a stash of items that also don't make it to the website as well. You will get a larger stone on a budget if you buy a well cut genuine antique diamond or antique ring. If you want a perfectly cut stone then an August Vintage stone from GOG in a Beverly K setting or something that is a genuine Antique setting from Ebay (search under Antique Semi mounts) might be other options. GOG have genuine Antique cut diamonds that are great prices and they come with ASETs so don't forget to ask them what they have as well.

If we have some idea of what you like visually everyone will steer you towards ideas. Keep a look out on Loupetroop and DiamondBistro, members regularly trade in and trade up their old cut diamonds and rings.

I have an AVR and love them, but they will cost more than an antique stone. They will also generally have better light performance. I'd recommend Beverley K if you use Good Old Gold. They also can call in OEC's if you want to compare an older stone. He has access to most of the same stones the others do, but he will do comparison videos for you with the AVR's.

Here's one example of a ring that I think is beautiful!

That is beautiful Beyert, welcome to Pricescope by the way! :wavey:

Thanks Lorelei :-)

Diamond seeker,

That's where I'm really torn! I do think I would sacrifice size for light performance, however. So I think I would end up going with the August Vintage Round.

Thanks for the post!

Thanks DK!

Arkieb,

Awesome advice - I will look into these sites!

Totally off topic but I'm assuming that your avatar is a picture of your kitty? Beautiful! Siamese? I have a Tonkinese (blue point) :-)

Thanks again!!

Hi, yes he is a Tonkinese as well, and my screen name ArkieB was the name of a Tonk now gone to the rainbow bridge - he was an amazing cat as well!!!

The style of ring you have picked is really pretty!!!!

Not sure whether this is actually on the BK site, but you could provide the picture to the person at GOG who orders settings if you end up deciding on an AVR and they can get it. It is very close to your inspiration ring.

This is one that I just like. It could have a round in it, too.

x2. I REALLY love the second setting for a modern/antique ring.

I'm by no means an expert on this, but Gesner Estate Jewelry always has lots of antique engagement rings on eBay. I looooove to browse their inventory. Their website is www.gesner.com..

Where are you located geographically? A lot of our vendors have brick and mortar presences and maybe we can direct you to one of them.
