My beautiful engagement ring is soft and fragile! It is labradorite or rainbow moonstone set in silver. It's not ideal for every day wear. I am saving up for a ring that can be worn every day, and I'm quite partial to wide platinum bands (6-9mm) with channel set vertical baguette diamonds. I have found many beautiful examples of such a thing but not with the right price, or ring size, or metal.

If any happy diamond hunters want to help me seek out a deal, that would be cool! I've been scouring eBay, LT, etsy, first dibs, Lang antiques, and more. But perhaps there is a stone I've left unturned.

Wish list:

Platinum

Size 4.5-6 (I need size 5-5.5)

Not eternity band

Around 1.5+ ctw

Heavy setting (nothing flimsy looking)

Eye clean diamonds

Channel set diamonds: tapered or not tapered is fine with a possible preference for a tapered design

Close to 6-9mm width preferred

Budget: $2700 CAD or $2000USD

Inspiration pics below. Let me know if I have left anything out!

Me wearing a $20k Cartier band that is 9mm in width to show you finger coverage, and then a pic of my lovely engagement ring.

How about having CVB make you one with frenchies? They are the same size as baguettes but are more sparkly.

Ooo that would be nice! But I think I'd have to increase my budget substantially in order to get the finger coverage I desire.

Have you checked out Israel Rose? It looks like they have a selection of vertical baguette bands in a range of sizes and carat weights... https://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/Wedding-Bands/4/1/cat

FWIW, I've bought several times from Israel Rose (aka New York Estate Jewelry), and kept a few things and returned a few - easy, no hassle process - usually I try to line up a purchase with one of their periodic sales (which range from 10-15%).

Have you considered reaching out to David Klass for a quote? His work is beautiful and very reasonably priced. I saw that someone recently posted a baguette band that he created.

With that said, I personally am not a huge fan of the man's band that you posted. There is way too much metal and does look like a guy's ring. The price seems high to me as well, but I don't know much about baguettes and how much they costs Also, I am partial to "straight" bands and not the cigar band look. I just think that it is more feminine and trendier, but it is your ring in the end.

Edit: Probably the most famous baguette band. Perhaps, create for yourself something like this but 1/2 eternity only.

Not as thick as you would like, but here is a suggestion: https://www.rubylane.com/item/1454688-8879/Platinum-50ct-Baguette-Cut-Diamond-4mm?search=1

As someone with short fingers, I envy how you can carry off a +/- 9 mm band with graceful ease!

No downside to asking David Klass (and ID Jewelry) for a price quote & the fact that you don't want a full eternity is helpful to your wallet, but nice baguettes are more expensive than many people anticipate. So I think the pre-owned avenue that you've been exploring is likely to prove to be the source for you.

Is white gold OK or do you really want platinum?

I had not checked there! Thank you! I will keep my eye on them :)
Nothing called out to me as perfect but it's nice to have a new site to watch.

Saw marymm's post and found this. It's a man's ring but resizeable. Didn't look at the whole site, there are probably others.

Hmm this has potential! A lot more than I was hoping to spend, though.

I am looking for wider, but I do like that price. However I do not think I would be satisfied unless I find a really wide band. I want the epic finger coverage for a stand-alone band! :D

This is gold, but I think similar to the style that you prefer (still a it thinner though) https://www.rubylane.com/item/1105910-EM3807RR/14K-1-00-Ctw-Baguette-Diamond?search=1

My preference is for platinum and wider, but I do like that price so I will certainly keep it in mind.

Oh you are so sweet! Thanks for the compliment. You're right - I could totally get a quote and go from there. But I gotta think that 2k USD is not going to go very far (or wide) if I go the custom route. I believe I may be better off biding my time and waiting to find the right pre-owned option. I am open to white gold (if everything else, including the price, were PERFECTION) but I do have a strong preference for platinum. I like the heft of it and the colour and the patina over time. I just love it! I kind of wish I didn't, because it tends to cost more and also costs more to re-size... but we love what we love ;-)

I am also thinking maybe a wide platinum diamond band would satisfy me, and it doesn't necessarily have to be vertical baguettes. I think a baguette band will probably look like crap when it is dirty... but I can't tell if I'd be happy with any ol' wide diamond band, or if I'm just telling myself that to avoid a higher price tag! I think I will see what is out there (with your help) and decide from there based upon what I am able to find. I'm in no hurry, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for a good deal :D

Hey Marymm! I finally had a chance to look closer at Israel Rose. I found a few potentials:

This one ticks off a lot of boxes but is maybe a touch too thin for me at 6mm: https://www.newyorkestatejewelry.com/0.90ct-Diamond-Wedding-Band/Wedding-Bands/23557/4/item
I also wonder what it looks like in real life as opposed to the computer-y looking photo they have on the site.

I think I really like the shape of this one, but the ring size is too big and the price is too high: https://www.newyorkestatejewelry.co...mond-Platinum-Band/Wedding-Bands/11660/4/item

I'm a patient woman. I can keep looking all these places until I find my perfect ring! :)

I'm also potentially considering a slightly different style (like below) in order to get the width, but I don't want the ring to look cheap and I don't want to cheap out in order to save money and wish I had just waited to get the ring I really want. Maybe I need to go try some more on to be sure.

Thank you, everyone, for pointing me in such useful directions!

The first isn't exactly what you asked for but it is a nice option. The second seems a perfect match and it's a dollar under your budget.:appl:
I really like the look of a tapered baguette band, and the 2.75 ct one which thecat found for you looks quite promising! (albeit not the platinum you're hoping for) But..... even if you were buy it via the eBay listing instead of LT, you couldn't return it.

If you might consider purchasing it, please check first with a reputable local bench (preferably one with a laser welder) about resizing it down possibly 2 full sizes. Because it's a channel set band, the resizing will definitely be more demanding (even though it's not a full eternity), and pricier, than the resizing of a simple band or solitaire ring.

The Jamesallen one is pretty similar to my wedding band, in that the baguettes are horizontally set. Nice, but I've been there and done that! :)

The LT one you linked I had spied... it is so close, but yet so far. I like the shape and the size, the price is ok, but darn... it is white gold and a lot bigger ring size than I require. I am keeping it in mind but if I spend my full budget I am hoping it will be on platinum
.
**edited to remove inapporpriate quoted post**

That is very interesting to me. I have a yellow wide yellow gold band I could pair it with that might make me happy.... please feel free to post a pic in this thread or you should be able to find me on LT as ringmaven and you can email me if you like. I think I need a little more info before I could say for sure if I am interested or not. I *do* really like crisscut stones though!

Ooo lala! Very nice, Niel. Cool style, I do love wide marquise bands and it IS platinum, but it costs more than my budget allows and it can't be re-sized which is a little risky. My ring size is 4.75 when I am not pregnant and when I have a thin band. I am estimating I will need size 5-5.5 for a wide band, but I need to have the flexibility of a non-eternity band because I don't totally know yet which size will be most comfortable. Thanks for posting though!

Good advice about the re-sizing! Thank you! I, too, like that it is tapered... but I really have concerns about re-sizing it and white gold really isn't my preference. If I'm blowing my budget, I want it to be for a holy grail band that makes my fingers sing with joy every time I wear it :dance:and I just love platinum more. Again, I wish I didn't! But the heart wants what it wants ;-)

IMG_0013.JPG This is the yellow gold band I have, paired with my friend's diamond band. So maybe it would look cool with the crisscut YG band... ahh options.

IMG_0134.JPG So I tried on some wider bands today. I really like the dome one with the scattered diamonds. What would you call that? Almost like an étoile band...

It was $500 CAD or $370 USD for unplated 14k. Size 4.5 or 5, I think. I could have gotten it on if my fingers weren't so swollen from heat and pregnancy!

If I could find that ring for $300 CAD ($222 USD) I would snap it up in a second! I really liked the width, the dome, and the bit of bling.

Does $500 seem like a good deal? I don't even know...

IMG_0128.JPG IMG_0130.JPG IMG_0132.JPG IMG_0133.JPG Because if I can find a low-budget wide ring to satisfy me, then it means I have more money to save up for my next project: a MRB ACA from white flash!

Also I tried on this other vintage ring which was fun and sparkly and $750 CAD and I liked the finger coverage but it wasn't *love*. In addition, I'm having a baby in ten weeks so I really want a smoooth ring that will catch on nothing. But I know you guys like pics so here are the other rings I tried on!

It's wide. It's platinum. It's a size 5. But not baguettes. Nice price.

For what you are looking for (inexpensive, wide, sparkly) my personal choice would be the YG one you tried on. So you can wear it with a gold band on your ring finger if you want, and later switch to the right side for a right hand ring when you get your ACA.

Or, alternatively, have you though of finding a couple of thinner 3mm bands and starting a stack? Might be easier on the budget to do that.

Bunnycat - I *do* like that price!!! I may have to go for that one!

I've been a bit quiet because I've spotted a band I REALLY like being sold on a site that has regular sales. I am waiting for it to go on sale and then I will SNAP IT UP! But if I miss out on it, I will need to have back-up options in mind.

Big shout out to Niel who found everything I was looking for: a wide platinum band with step cut stones AND within budget and my ring size! But it's just not speaking to me. I feel like the pickiest girl in the world. I guess I wouldn't be on PS if I didn't have discerning tastes ;-)

I'll keep you guys posted on this mission. I'm expecting the band I have my eye on to go on sale in less than a month. We shall see!

I have a platinum tapered baguette eternity band. 6+ carats and HEAVY! It doesn't seem to get dirty but then again I don't wear it all of the time. You might consider a 3/4 band in platinum with maybe princess in a channel set? I really liked the photo of the yellow gold and your friends band. Pre-loved is the way to get a fab deal on EBands , my only concern is maintenance and repairs of necessary? Just keep looking! Deals are out there and I'm sure you will come across a good one soon enough! Don't settle. Be patient.

If you are going the pre-loved route, it is a safe bet to find one that is a little small for you than too big. Channel settings can be tricky to size down, especially with baguettes.

I would love to see a photo!

And you're right - don't settle and be patient is the best advice!

Good to know, thank you!! It makes sense but I hadn't really thought about it.

I'm thinking I might want to try this style on in person before deciding that I NEED it. Too often I think something will look great and I try it on in person and do not love it!

That diamond bistro one you found was an awesome price. I actually went to buy it, but it had already sold! Oh well. My heart wasn't set on it or I would've jumped on it immediately. What a deal, though!

It took me nearly a year to find this because like you, I had specific qualifications I wanted my band to meet and style I liked and refused to go over a certain price point. Just be patient. This is a 6.4 carat tapered baguette eternity band set in platinum with milgrain edgeing. Like I said, it is heavy. Size 7.5 finger, my fingers are also way long! It sparkles beautifully and pics don't capture that. :) I wish you the best!
