Hi all,

I'm asking for your knowledgable help as to where I could find the best oval diamond on a budget, preferably <$2000. Willing to stretch though. I am in love with warmer colours (K and warmer) with a brown tint as opposed to yellow, and I'm also interested in fancy colours ranging from very light brown to fancy brownish yellow.

For the setting I am planning on something similar to Victor Canera's "Alaria" Solitaire with flush stems in rose gold, or the "Emilya" Halo with flush stems, also in rose gold. Probably the solitaire though. As a side note, does anyone know the approximate costs of these settings?

I have no minimum carat size in mind, however I would prefer an oval with a length of about 7mm or more, with a ratio of 1.4 and up. So roughly 0.7 carats and higher. Of course the bigger the better, but for the right stone I am willing to compromise on size. I would like an oval with minimal bowtie too, asking too much? Probably.

I live in Australia, so it's difficult for me to order diamonds and return them in the 30 day grace period if I don't like them. Vendors who supply photographs/videos would be amazing. I've had a look at loads of jewelers: GOG, ID Jewelry, Diamonds by Lauren, James Allen, Blue Nile etc. But I'm really having a hard time finding ovals in warmer colours.

Your help would be very much appreciated :)

I am adding some photos which are my ring inspiration, not sure of the sources, just a quick google image search.

Perfect finger coverage with rose gold band (quite a white stone though)

Can you call Leibish and tell them to source something for you? Because I don't know how else you are going to find what you want. It's very specific. And rare.

Victor has good connections, have you asked him?

Hi Gypsy. Leibish looks like it might be a bit out of my price range, but it's worth sending them an email. I haven't made any contact with Victor yet. Thanks for that advice, I'll try emailing him to see if he can source anything.

Hi Hidingpearl,

where in Australia are you?

There are a few auction groups that you may be interested in , depending on what time frame you are looking at and where you live.

Hi nottospec,

That sounds interesting. I've never heard of an auction group before. I'm in no rush to buy a diamond at this stage, so if the perfect one comes up I'll snatch one up hopefully. I'm located in Melbourne. Are there any auction groups there?

Thanks giraffecushion! I had seen that diamond before and do love it (although might be a little too yellow for my liking) and I was wondering if it was great value, or if there are any more vendors which sell similar.

Niel - I was hoping to only spend 1-1.5k on a setting. I'm guessing the VC ones are more? Perhaps I could go the custom route with David Klass or another if cheaper?

I can't comment on if that stone is rare. I love that caramel color though.

As for the setting with that budget I probably wouldn't even go custom. Most of the people who sell stones can make you a similar setting in rose gold.

VC's settings pretty much start at 3K. You won't be able to go with custom with him with your budget.

David Klass may be able to do what you want for that budget.
