Calling all emerald cut experts!

I am looking for a squarish emerald cut diamond with a ratio of between 1.1 - 1.25 which has optimal light performance. Ideally I want to see some nice flashes of fire so would probably prefer a smaller table than depth% and a steeper crown. I also want to maximise the face-up size so would prefer a thin - medium girdle. It needs to be eye clean, so probably at least VS1 (but would consider good VS2 or SI1s if eye clean). I like large corners, so my ideal stone would probably look like an "elongated asscher" if that makes sense.

Im looking for something which will face up fairly white so would consider I color up to F color. I am open to blue fluorescence as long as it doesn't make the diamond look cloudy. Budget is up to $4300 and the vendor must have a decent return and shipping policy for international buyers.

Seems like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack but maybe one of the helpful Pricescopers can come up with something great.

This is a gorgeous stone, and that ratio is extremely hard to find. Have you seen an ec stone that size? Because it is quite small. I have a 5.5mm asscher and it is in a halo setting which helps.

I should have also clarified that I am looking for 1ct plus.

I recently found a 1.14ct EC which was 5.5 x 6.5 and that size looked good - in fact those measurements are probably my ideal as I will probably halo it as well. But the diamond was too warm for what I was looking for. So the hunt continues.....

You probably won't find a perfect one with everything you want. You'll have to make some compromises, probably.

Thanks diamondseeker. This was the other one I got an ASET on and that was worse than the 1.06ct. I think I have exhausted the JA options for the time being. I need to widen to my search to other vendors who also have pics/ videos and ASETs. I tried Enchanted diamonds but they dont seem to have any of the squarer diamonds.

Show us the ASET images for the two stones. Or have you already posted them in another thread?

When you look for a ratio of 1.1, that is more likely going to be posted as an asscher than an EC. I do not think you have a half decent selection of emerald cuts until you get to 1.3-1.35.

I am not sure where else you can look aside from JA, Enchanted, and GOG (and they don't have one with a low ratio). James Allen and Enchanted list diamonds from many sources which are the same as most other jewelers access.

Can you post the two ASETs? Or did you already post them and people said they were too bad to consider?

Yes, sorry, they were posted in a previous thread. The feedback was not that positive on them and the better of the two still showed a fair amount of leakage in the centre.

If these are the ASETs, I think they are both worth looking at. What we want to avoid is a lot of the background color showing through...in this case, black. As Brian said on that thread, any fancy cut stone with mostly red and green (and some blue) is worth looking at. I do not see a lot of black in either stone. I think it would be a mistake not to look at the I color stone if it is one of these.

This is a very respectable ASET:

I think you misunderstood the comments. Ideally we do not rely exclusively on ASET. Many people asked to see the video that corresponds to the stone so they could check the how the facets flash and the crown height, and you didn't post them.

Please post the stone link for the stone that this ASET corresponds too. I can tell you that this ASET is on par with my own and my stone is frankly lovely. Very promising ASET, frankly.

This aset is for the 1.06 E color diamond (link at the beginning of the thread).

Since I ordered that ASET a few weeks ago I have had to rein the budget in so this diamond is now not a possibility. I will probably end up going for an H or I color in order to fit my budget of $4300, if I can find one. Im not keen on the other JA option (also linked above) although it is within budget.

What are you not keen about it? The color? Size? Please don't say the ASET image. If so, you could be ruling out the best stone you will find for your budget. You need to see stones in person. The ASET is a screening tool, and the diamond is worth looking at unless there is something else you dislike about it. Otherwise, you probably will need to change your ratio to 1.3 to have more from which to choose.

Go to your other thread where Mayk posted the ASET for her EC.

Re: Help me find a top performing EC with L/W ratio of 1.1-1

Here are some stones to consider.
Just outside your ratio:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.02-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-588359 Yes it is 1.3 ratio but it's a knock out I think.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.00-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-735521 If eyeclean it looks lovely. Yes, it is 1.3 but it's got a really nice squat shape. I like the one second best.

Within your ratio:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.02-carat-h-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-564737 Checks all the boxes, I would get an ASET.
Another one: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.04-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-294370 (I actually prefer this one to the last one).

Looks perfectly eyeclean: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/emerald-cut/1.03-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-sku-369349 And it ticks all your boxes.

I have an "asscherald" myself and find them divine.

Are there actual images of the stone posted somewhere Kelpie?

No. She'll have to have them call it in.

Great pics Gypsy.

Also, some might not be aware, but James Allen isn't doing Asets till January. :(
