Help me design an alternate e-ring, please

I have a big anniversary coming up and want to have this stone made into an alternate engagement ring. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I started to feel a little out of place with my large diamond e-ring but I still want a big stone for my horrifying manhands. I picked this because it's a clear-ish color but doesn't look like a diamond exactly and nobody can really tell what it is. If I'm even making sense to anyone but myself.

If you can tell by my not-so-great photos, it's a 7 carat light pink precision cut lab sapphire by Finewater,12x10 cushion. (I don't know why it looks like it has inclusions in some of my photos; It doesn't). Any ideas?

I know I want diamonds (or a diamond substitute) all the way around it, but probably more chunky than the typical halo.

And two equidistant thin bands, like an e-ring and wedding band combo.

And that's as far as I've gotten. Help?

These are pink diamonds, but a couple ideas for setting your pink stone. :)

Wow, what a nice and HUGE stone! Remember that a large halo will be ... well, large! Try taking a post it note and draw out the shape of your stone. Then, as an experiment, make 1 mm halo around the thing (that will add 2 mm all around, plus a lil for prongs/bezels). You want a “Chunky Halo”, then add 2 mm stones all around (that’ll add 4 mm all around) and so on. It could end up rubbing on adjacent fingers.

Here’s some samples of bigger halos with a large cushion center.

Here are some a lil smaller halos, still with a large center

And smaller yet, still awesome presence

Thanks to everyone so far.

I keep changing my mind about it. On the one hand, I might want a mix of some kind, of both yellow and white gold, and both white and pink diamonds (or substitutes).

On the other hand, I might just keep it simple. All white metal and a surround of diamonds that are all the same size and shape (round). If I go that route, I think I've narrowed the diamond size down to more than ten surround diamonds and less than sixteen (and only one halo). Hmm...

Good idea about being sure to draw it out and cut it out to be sure it won't be too large on my hand.

I just did a "dot-dash" halo that I really found interesting, and may work for you. Here's a stock photo for an example.

Thanks, RJLongLong. I've never heard of a dot-dash halo before. Love it!

Still somewhat stuck but I know I want some type of halo (not necessarily meaning only tiny stones, but stones of some type all around the center stone). And I want yellow gold around the pink sapphire center stone but white metal around the white diamonds in the halo. And two equi-distant, plain bands on the ring, to signify engagement and wedding bands in one.

Another factor I'm trying to decide on is possibly including some small pink stones in the halo, either as a second halo around an inner halo of white diamonds or a pink diamond in each of the four "corners" or on each of the four sides. On the other hand, worried that will be too much or look too cutesy or "cocktail ring" or something, especially on an e-ring for daily wear.

I keep looking at examples but am just not hitting that "aha!" moment where I figure out the details enough to proceed.

The safest option is probably to just put a plain ring of same-sized, round white diamonds in white metal around the pink sapphire, which would be surrounded by yellow gold. And with the two thin yellow gold bands. Maybe best to keep it basic? There's not a lot of space to work with on a ring. I feel like it's easy to overdo the details and end up with one that just looks cluttered.

I've been puddling along with ideas for a sapphire cluster for myself, very similar to your idea. I've faffed between designs, halos of mixed cuts, shoulders of side pears or baguettes with a halo of RBs...but after going around and around, I've decided on the centre sapphire in a thin rose gold bezel, white gold shared prongs holding 10 point diamonds, and a plain rose gold shank. I feel it will be big enough without being busy, and imagine yours would be too. I actually love your idea of simple and uncluttered.

Although, I do still think about the shoulder baguettes/emerald cuts/traps. Would that be enough to create a bit of interest for your ring? Possibly in yellow gold bezels, to tie in with the centre stone, and the rest of the halo in white gold?

Thanks, Dandi. I think I can narrow mine down more now. Yellow gold thin bezel around the center stone, two thin yellow gold bands, and white diamonds (or other white stones) all around it, in white gold or platinum. I'm going to cut out the idea of pink stones or yellow gold in the "halo" and keep it simple.

Now I just have to figure out what the white metal/white stone "halo" looks like. I might just go with round stones, all the same size. But I don't really want an antique look or a "flower" look for this one. Hmm...

I've saved a pic somewhere of a lovely milgrain cushion halo, I'll see if I can find it, it was a front runner for me for a while!

Hi @seaurchin! Is this what you mean when you say two equi distant bands?

Something like that, only closer together and closer to the middle the ring. Thanks. Maybe "equidistant" wasn't the right word.

Ah got it - I think double band or split shank you should have no problem customizing the space width. Very cool design! A few addition inspiration halos from a google image search:

I decided that stone wasn't quite right after all, so I had it made into a necklace (David Klass) instead. I wanted a simple, casual, go-with-anything design for it. More pics are around here somewhere but here's one:

ps3.jpg

So now I'm starting over again on the ring, with a bit smaller stone that has cut corners. I didn't ask but I think it's from the same rough as the first stone. The one that's on the way is 5.44 ct., 10.5x8.2x6.6mm. I'm looking at morganite wedding sets for ideas because a lot of them seem to have larger, light pink stones and two-tone gold. Here we go again!

@Rfisher- Ooh, thank you! Very nice!

I'm getting flustered because I'm afraid of making an expensive mistake and the more elements in my ring, the more likely that is imo. Maybe I should give up on mixing the gold colors and keep it simple?

I really like the ring below, for ex. (It looks to me like it's all white gold and white diamonds around the center stone, though I'm not 100% sure). The center stone somewhat similar to mine. However it is Robyn Dixon's ring (reality star) and she's marrying her husband for the second time, after giving him several years off for all the cheating he did. I would hate to jinx myself haha! (jk)

Thoughts? (Y'all can tell me if you don't like it lol).

Sorry for the delay if anyone was waiting for this. I got a lot of help with it here, which is much appreciated! Fedex tortured me for a couple of days but I finally got it. The center stone so lively in this setting. It looks so different in different light. I am overjoyed. :)
