I''m starting from nothing and could really use some help! I am looking for a 3+ carat round diamond, F-H color, clarity (happy as long as it''s eyeclean, SI1?), nice cut (does not need to be branded or top of the line), GIA or AGL certed. I''m really trying to be flexible in order to be cost effective.

I realize that there might only be a handful of diamonds that fall in this category, but I''m hoping that I might find something within the range of 25-33k? I''ve just started looking online, but I''m a bit overwhelmed at trying to figure out which diamonds I should consider?

Hoping that some of the diamond experts here might be willing to help hunt down a couple potential candidates?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks SO much Stone-cold11! I''ve requested the GIA report and the Idealscope image and will post them here as soon as I get them.

Please let me know if you come across any other potential winners! Can''t tell you how much I appreciate your weeding through a sea of diamonds to help me find a potential keeper.

Thanks again!

I would ecourage you to put a high emphasis on cut quality. In the end, what is going to make the diamond look great is the cut, so try to find one with ideal proportions. It is worth it.

I would also encourage you to call some vendors and tell them what you want and ask them to help you out. Well cut diamonds of that size are not super common, and vendors probably don''t carry them in house. But they have access to resources that you do not. Why not let them do the leg work for you? They would make a good profit off such a purchase so can afford to help you out.

Here''s a couple I have been looking at. I hate to show you the second one because I want it for myself. Oy.

Can you trade a little bit of size for killer color/clarity?

Hey trader, these are the same rings.... Nice have to say...

trader, those are gorgeous!

I am with DD - I'd go down in size to get an ideal cut. I can't wait to see what you find.

Great advice as always... Please check these vendors out.... CUT is KEY. That''s what makes a diamond so beautiful. It''s the KEY ingredient so to speak...

Best of luck, I look forward to seeing your progress.

IMO cut is always important, but the bigger you go the more important it is b/c the more diamond there is to look bad, KWIM

Thritto these ladies. I would also add these vendors to the list;

www.highperformancediamonds.com

www.niceice.com

www.exceldiamonds.com

www.idjewelryonline.com

www.jamesallen.com

Also when looking at SI clarities, with diamonds of this size it might take a bit to find one which is eyeclean to your standards, it is crucial to get your vendor to physically inspect the stone to see if it meets your expectations for ' eyecleanliness.' Also be wary with SI clarity grades which have clouds drawn on the clarity plot as grade makers, these can sometimes impact performance and cause the diamond to look dull.

I think the photograph in the loupe image didn't come out too well, but this diamond could be worth consideration, request an Idealscope image if interested if you would consider a lower colour, a J colour can still look very white with an excellent cut even in this size.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies! I''m a bit disappointed in this whole process, I guess I didn''t realize how much research one had to do in order to fine a great diamond at a great price. I thought shopping for a mattress was bad until I started looking for a diamond!

tradergirl - Thanks for sharing the links, I certainly wouldn''t want you to kill me :). I had never considered looking on ebay for a ring? Is this something that I should feel comfortable doing? The prices look more "reasonable", is there a particular reason for that?

Sigh...at this rate I feel like I''m never going to find the right diamond at the right price. It seems like it''s going to be a full time job just looking for this diamond and with limited free time, I''m not sure how you guys do it!

Thanks again, I''d love any other diamond suggestions!
Much appreciated!

I know how you feel, it''s a little overwhelming at first. I''d pick two vendors and have them do the work for you... This carat size is harder to find, so will take some time.

I have worked with most of the vendors listed, they are all great to work with...

Diamond band, this should be fun

You have an awesome budget and will find a fantastic ring. many people on this forum like nothing more than to help others find great diamonds. There can sometimes be some great finds on ebay in the vintage/estate section-but the risk of getting a dud is really high so it''s a stressful process, and I''d say one that''s ill advised unless you are really comfortable/experienced at evaluating diamonds. Dover Jewelry has some awesome stuff, so if you''re looking on ebay I''d stick with them (and maybe a few others who I''m sure other PSers will point out).

Are you married to 3cts? Do you want a big look (for example a 2.5 that faces up like a 3), or does it have to hit the 3 ct mark?

Good find Lorelei. If that is eye clean enough that''d be fantastic!!!

See........too late.

EGL graded......so probably a couple grades off.

I just traded (looks like almost the same setting) in a 3.69 cwt. K VS1 for $25K GIA graded total .40 cwt side baguettes.

Keep looking and maybe someone like myself will sell one on eBay. I just could not be bothered with the hassle of selling the ring privately.

Good luck.

Well thanks a lot. I would have bought it from you! LOL

Okay, I called James Allen and out of the 3 suggested, the 1st one might be eyeclean (others were probably not).

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1198453.asp

They will send me the idealscope to review. Thanks so much for the recommendations Lorelei!

The Dover Jewelry site has some amazing pieces! I would probably be more comfortable with a GIA or equivalent certed diamond. Please let me know if there are any other websites similar to Dover?

Thanks again for all the support, it''s really nice to get some feedback and recommendations on this difficult and important purchase!

Bella_mezzo - Great question! I used to have a 2.51 diamond, so I''m trying to "upgrade" myself. I''m hoping to find a 3 carat, but would be willing to step below if it faces up like a 3 carat!

You are most welcome, I look forward to seeing the Idealscope image when you get it!

Just fixing the link then I will take a look for you.....

Diamondband, I sometimes have trouble with BN links that they only take me to the homepage for some reason, could you link me to the grading report for the stone please, or the info you used for the HCA?

I colour will be fine even in this size if the angles check out, the stone won't be icy but more of a softer white, you might see a breath of warmth from the side but its normally minimal.

wow-that will be a huge rock if it works out

Thank you stonecold, lets take a look....

The diamond has excellent proportions and as far as can be ascertained without images, its well worth consideration if eyeclean. You would need to ask your BN rep to find out if it meets your expectations and preferences for ' eyecleanliness' if possible.
