The Jeweler is offering me $10,000 for this. Is this a great buy or should I keep looking for better? I''ve been searching for 2 months.....

ANyone have any thoughts about this diamond....?

I believe the crown is 35.5 degrees, 55%
and pavilion is 41.2 degrees, 80%

HCA 4.6 where it is out of the AGS0 range but still falls within the GIA. Good in all categories with a VG in spread. I think I''d pass on it.

Pass?
I don''t understand you hca lingo.....
I thought catagories are in excel range....

Thanks! Going by these figures, it appears this diamond may be what we call a steep deep, that the crown and pavilion angles are not likely to give you the best light return, the diamond may leak light and not sparkle as much as you would wish. I would look for some more contenders personally and try to keep the numbers similar to these.

depth - 60 - 62.4% ( my preferred max cut off)

table - 54 - 57%

crown angle - 34 - 35 deg

pavilion angle - 40.6 - 41 deg - for these angles on the shallower and steeper ends ( 34/ 40.6 shallower) and ( 35/ 41 steeper) an Idealscope image and trusted vendor evaluation is particularly useful to make sure the angles work in harmony with that diamond.

polish and symmetry very good and above.

Also HCA means the Holloway Cut Advisor which is used for eliminating stones, not selecting them. A score of 2 and under is considered desirable in many cases, that the diamond may be worth further consideration. Also you can't go by labels such as Excellent cut, Ideal cut necessarily, this does not guarantee you a well cut stone unfortunately.

Perhaps the easiest approach is to use the search tool above, enter your size, colour and clarity, then hit cut quality search. This should bring up some well cut diamonds for you to consider.

I am confused. WHy would GIA grade a triple EX?....

so this isn''t worth the 10,000?...I should keep looking around?

we consider GIA''s grading to be flawed when it comes to certain proportions.

Yes, keep looking.

This thread may help you, read down a little and there is a discussion of GIA excellent:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/hearts-arrows.84873/

If you want to know if it is a good deal for the $$, then use the search function at the top of this page, it will tell you what comparable diamonds cost (i.e., other GIA excellent cuts of similar size).

We are just telling you that we don''t think the cut is a good as you can get. It''s up to you to decide if you think it is a good deal or not, and whether you want to buy it, we won''t tell you that. We can only tell you that as obsessive diamond nuts, we personally would pass.

I agree. I looked at pricescope and would say for $8000 probably, for $9000 possibly, but for $10000 you can do much better.

i always get leery about these magic # stone 1.00ct,1.5ct,2.00ct etc,etc....the cutter will try very hard to keep the weight at these magic numbers.
