Help! I just engraved the wrong date on our wedding bands!!

Im such an idiot!! I have even surpassed my usual stupidity.

After 9 months of marriage I finally took our bands to the jeweler to get engraved, but I gave the wrong date!!! Its my fault. I said 10 instead of 9 (now we got married in october not september!!)

even if i get them to polish the 10, there will be a funny gap for a 9.

idiot. idiot. idiot. idiot.

can engraving be polished off?!!!

My husband thinks it is hilarious. He says it is like keeping a little bit of silly with him all the time

I think this is so funny! I got married in April and couldn't remember the month so his rings say April in full rather than the 5...because April is the 5th month, right?

Yes, engraving can be buffed out and you can start from scratch. There might be a slightly different texture behind where the date was initially, but it shouldn't show much.

Don't beat yourself up about it- I am always getting confused as to the exact date. It is funny and most importantly your dh has a sense of humor about it so be kinder to yourself. You could polish out both the 1 and 0 and put in 09 so there is no gap. Don't stress! In the grand scheme of things this will be a lighthearted mistake you can laugh about in years to come (and right now if you think about it in perspective).

i think its funny too, however I'm still an idiot!

i half want to keep them wrong as I am perpetually doing silly things..

Im going to have it all scrubbed out and start again, but I'm worried the rings will be too big then,...

It wouldn't be so bad if i didn't do things like that ALL the time!!

You're not an idiot sushi for that mistake. We all make mistakes like that- it's Murphy's Law in effect if you KWIM. My dh and I laugh about all the silly mistakes we make. This might sound weird but all these little mistakes add up to funny memories that build upon your relationship. it's like your private little language that bonds you closer if that makes any sense at all. It's early here and hot and there is a water emergency in effect due to a water main break and I didn't sleep well so sorry if I'm not making much sense. But don't worry or stress about this!!

Sushi, as a male poster with a good sense of humor, I can tell you this kind of mistake is the kind that is endearing to men. Let's be honest, we slap on the ring (hardly) never take it off and probably forget we're even wearing it sometimes. But if I had this happen to me I would spend the rest of life laughing while telling people this story.

Thanks for sharing your story! Maybe you should wait for a week or two, and then see how you feel about having the rings re-engraved?

My big date mix-up came a year or two ago, when I was responsible for booking a hotel room for our arrival in the second leg of a 3-person trip. I booked for the wrong date (for our departure date from that city, I think), and because of internet limitations in the first leg of the trip, couldn't get it corrected. Then we missed a flight, got in much later than expected, and decided to spend the night in the airport rather than pay an outrageous amount - for the second time! - for a room we'd only be in for a few hours. I told my travelling companions that they could now call themselves true seasoned travelers, having spent a night in a night in an airport.

Partly...this really is the reason why I had them spell out April. Our wedding invites almost went out at day-05-year. I always think April is the 5th month.

So, yes, kidding in post. Most serious in that I do this all the time.

LOL My dh says this whenever I make a "mistake"- he says exactly the same thing- he's glad it wasn't his mistake or I would have killed him hahaha-

We have water now but just have to boil it. Huge pain especially cause it's so darn hot out but I'm glad we have water anyway we can get it. Thanks for the good wishes.

I would leave it too. I am constantly forgetting the date of our wedding. Terrible but true. I never remember if it's the 23, 22 or 27th. DH knows this and it's a joke between us. I would do what Dreamer suggested and just add something after it like "oops 9")

I love the idea of "oops 9"!

It will make him laugh as I don't know my left and rights either. In the wedding I gave him the wrong hand. I turned left instead of right in my driving test (perfectly! Passed!) and I also never know the difference between the 9th and 10th month! My left hand is only left because its not my right. The September is only the 9th month because it's 2 months before my birthday and that's the 11th month...

I got a degree in mathematics and computer programming btw... But some wires are definatelty crossed somewhere!!

sushi, I think it's adorable. I wouldn't change it at all, these are the types of stories that make a relationship deep and meaningful. like someone else said, your own inside joke, or secret language, it makes you the happy adorable couple that you are and speaks of the loving silly nature of your relationship. Imagine your future great grandchildren receiving the gift of your wedding ring from their parents and hearing this story for the first time. THATS a special moment and memory! Dont change it!
