The first time I saw the Tiffany Lucida it was love at first sight. I was convinced that it was the ring of my dreams. Last night I went in to Tiffany''s to finalize arrangements with the salesperson to get the ring I wanted transferred to the Los Angeles location so my boyfriend could purchase it.

Just for fun, I tried the Tiffany solitaire on one last time. Suddenly I wasn''t so sure of what I wanted anymore.

- Why I like the Legacy - the design and uniqueness and how large it looks even with a small carat center stone.

- Why I like the solitaire - it''s simplicity and the sparkle is amazing.
- What I want - WHatever turns more heads and causes people to say wow

Help!!! Which style do you guys prefer?

Well, what should matter most of all is what YOU want, not what everyone else thinks. Out of the two, I would chose the solitaire because I am more into simplicity. That way I know that I could get a killer band (or 2) and change the look frequently if I want. Is there a certain carat weight that you are looking at with each one?

You are very right... it''s about me and I hope I will ultimately make my decision based on that - but it''s nice to be admired right?

A tad under a 1.5 carats (one is 1.44 the other is 1.46).

I agree, I think it should be what makes YOU say WOW every morning when you look at it, not what others think cuz lets face it, everyone has different tastes! What makes me go wow might not do it for you....

I say pick the one that makes you go ga-ga over it!

I completely understand your dilemma though because I still can''t decide what center stone shape I want so good luck! Either way it will be beautiful!

I think the legacy is more unique and will turn more heads, plus it''s unique to tiffany''s. plain solitiares, although very classic are very common so if you are wanting something a little different I''d go with the legacy. If you want a plain solitaire, I''d save the $, get a stone from a pricescope vendor and put it in a Leon or MM setting and have a gorgeous unique solitaire.

If you want a headturner, don''t go with a solitiare. I love my solitaire, but when I got engaged, I thought I would get more comments (I had a 1.64 carat asscher at the time). I thought other people would go crazy because it''s such a unique stone, right? No. I got a lot of "That''s pretty" but no one really went crazy for it. I swapped up to a 2.25 carat solitiare, and only one person ever gushed over it. I have since switched to a 2 ct RB that I really love, but the ultimate plan is to put it in a more elaborate setting in a year or two.

My friends all got engaged within a year after me - all with stones smaller than mine, but with either micropave or sidestones, and everyone was going crazy over their rings. People love the "blinginess" of sidestones, and I myself am becoming a convert. I really picked the solitaire because it''s what my husband liked best (men usually go for sleek and simple) but all the women I know love the sparkly, blingy look.

So I say go for the Legacy. The matching band is gorgeous too.

I completely see where your coming from about wanting to turn heads and wanting the wow factor, but you have to remember at the end of the day your the one who has to wear it for the rest of your life and from expireance if you love it , it will show on your face and that will make everyone around you love it to! When you sparkle the ring can''t help but sparkle to.

I agree with you. People seem to like really elaborate settings. Someone looked at my Mark Morrell solitaire and said "You paid custom to get that??" The only comments I get are "Your stone is so sparkly." Some of the gaudiest elaborate settings that are too showy get the most compliments. I think it's preference. People who like showing off, like the showy things. People who enjoy the quality, like the simplicity of something that shows the stone.

eta. either way, I enjoy my ring. Compliments or not.

I too believe it is what you want. You''ll be looking at it more than anybody else.....

My gf liked simple solitaire settings, I too can appreciate them. I opened her eyes to split shanks, pave and eventually to my doom the 3 stone. We went to a lot of B&Ms and she tried anything and everything on...

So maybe you should go toting around a couple more jewelry stores and try on a few more before you decide.....

Just because people like elaborate or more detailed settings doesn''t automatically make them showy or want attention...It''s what THEY like...

Truthfully, after the initial excitement, your friends may not pay too much attention to your ring. So by all means get what you think you'd like over time.

I was a little confused, though. Were you comparing the Legacy with a Lucida solitaire or the round solitaire? You mentioned Lucida, Legacy, and solitaire in your first post.

I realized I didn't answer your question! I have always worn a solitaire and even upgraded to another solitaire. It is classic and elegant and I have the option of changing wedding bands. But I'd love to have a Legacy right hand ring with a colored stone. I think the solitaire is more practical for daily wear.

LOL! Poor things, they have no idea.

I too say get what you want. Whether or not it will get attention shouldn''t be much of a priority. And depending on where you live (like, where I do), you could be wearing the Hope diamond and rarely get a comment.

Vesper girl - Thanks that''s exactly what I needed to hear... I mean read.

I vote for Legacy. I also vote for anything that makes a diamond look larger. So that's a double yes on the Legacy.

I think you''ll find that either ring will turn an equal amount of heads as both are lovely choices. Then again, I haven''t noticed that tons and tons of people really notice engagement rings aside when you are initially engaged. Other than that, the only people who I have heard commenting on rings are those girls who are on the cusp of being engaged themselves and girls who are just REALLY into jewelry. With that being said, I agree that you should go for whatever flatters your hand the most and whatever you think will match your personal taste forever (assuming you don''t upgrade)

I just got back from Tiffany''s and I''ve made up my mind... Legacy it is. I took my sister and it took her literally two seconds to decide which one was more my style.

Thank you everyone for your help!
