Hello everyone!

I am purchasing a ring for my mother's birthday on July 31st! My budget is around $700, with a little room for give and take. I've found a diamond that I really like on Good Old Gold, and was planning on getting a setting from LOGR on Ebay. My mom is really sweet and knows that I've been saving up my cash for a while now to buy her a pretty ring (she's always wanted a diamond ring; we are from Bangladesh, and diamonds just aren't big there...she has all kinds of jewelery, except a pretty diamond ring!)...and she knows that I am fond of ordering jewelery online. However, she doesn't trust it one bit! She wants to go out to a mall or a jeweler to pick out a ring; I want to do what makes her happy, but with my budget, if I go with an online vendor, I could very comfortable get a half carat diamond with a halo. I think it would make a nice presence on my mom's hand. If I go with a B&M or mall store, then...I am afraid it would most likely be MUCH smaller.

I've done a LOT of hunting, and the value just doesn't seem to compare. Even if I do find something within my budget, the diamonds are usually incredibly cloudy and just terrible looking. (I'm in college, and this is going to be my first 'real' present to her with my 'own' money)Help? Any advice on how to convince her that Good Old Gold is reliable? The thing is, its also because she's never heard of them either; if it was a place or a name that she had heard of, then it would have been a lot easier to convince her. I've been looking forward to this for almost a year; I just don't want to give her something that she won't trust or be happy with.

I really hope this doesn't sound like she's not happy or anything at all, she is really very sweet and wouldn't mind if I bought her the tiniest diamond or just even got her a card. I'd just like to see a little bang for my buck.

aww, just wanted to say that you are such a sweet daughter to be doing this! i purchased mom a ring a few yrs ago with my siblings (like yours she had tons of other jewelry but no diamond ring) and she still wears it everyday with pride.

have you shown her some of the GOG rings purchased by pricescopers in the SMTR forum? i''m sure seeing everyones wonderful testimonials will help.

good luck!

You don''t convince her. You convince yourself that you know what you''re doing and that you''ll be giving her a beautiful ring. Take her around to the jewelry stores after you''ve given her the ring so she can see for herself what you might have given her if you had done it her way.

Tell her you''ve done your homework, and that she''ll just have to trust you on this one.

Good luck!

Aww thank you! That is really sweet of you and your siblings also.

I want to show her some of TourmalineLover''s or LaurenthePartier''s rings; LaurenthePartier has a split shank with a diamond which is exactly what I was considering. I had been debating it because it would give away the setting that I wanted to buy, but I think now that it might be worth it, and I don''t think she would know that that was the one I want to order for her.

Hmmn. Not a bad idea. I really do trust Good Old Gold. I''ve talked to Sarah from GOG on the phone and through email, they have a return policy, not to mention so many happy customers as I''ve seen on Pricescope. Sarah is so sweet and always takes the time to pull out the stones I''m interested in and give her take on them, and to tell me how they compare to one another, even though all of the diamonds I''ve been interested in are between $200 and $500 dollars. So many places probably wouldn''t give me the time of day if I was making such a ''small'' purchase. They really are fantastic.

Aww, I hope my daughters are as thoughtful when they grow up.
