Hi everyone! Please help!
I am a new guy to diamond and I am a “cheap” guy who wants to propose soon . The logic thing to do, in my opinion, is trying to find a diamond which is inexpensive, lovely looking and never thinking about its appreciation.
Then I made a possible mistake: I purchased a diamond ring from an unfamiliar internet vendor without detailed information at a discount. (Discount is the main reason. The price may be close to the Bluenile price, which is a great bargain here in China.)
Vendor: Samuel Alexander (It claims to be a vendor in New York, but I think it is actually in Shanghai.)
Cut: Round Modified Brilliant
Measurements 6.10 - 6.17 x 4.10 mm
Carat Weight 1.00 carat
Color Grade I
Clarity Grade SI2
Depth 66.9 %
Table 56 %
Girdle Slightly Thick to Very Thick, Faceted
Culet None
Polish Excellent
Symmetry Very Good
Fluorescence None
GIA report: 2151779245
(Most Importantly) Price: About USD 4000
I know it is not even close to perfection. But at least it looks quite shiny to me. We really do not have many shops with a 1 carat diamond here. So it could be impressive.
My main concerns are:
1. Since it is a round “modified” brilliant and GIA report does not show a cut grade or any crown angle information. It is at most a “good” cut grade. Am I right?
2. The round modified brilliant cut (see the attached graph) is not really as good as the same quality normal cut?
3. Is the round modified brilliant cut at a lower value compared to a normal one?
To put it in a simple way: am I an idiot who pays much more than it should be?
I have two days before the deadline that I can return it. Please help me decide whether I should keep it or shall I return it and try to get another one from aboard. Any information will be very helpful! Thank you!
