Let's try this again.

A good friend is looking for an engagement ring. Must be oval, must be yellow gold setting, must be under $2500.

I'm having very little luck with this.

Please help PS!

Call GOG.

Thanks, that is what I originally told him to do.

He wants the ring asap so he wants something currently in stock. His girlfriend is mad that he didn't buy the $2800 uncerted 0.63 si2.

Was hoping for something from James Allen or somewhere that may be faster to work with, but it looks like oval inventory is fairly low everywhere. I realize it's not really a popular cut right now.

He also turned down a nice 0.73 h vvs2 because it would look too large and "tacky".

So yeah I'm starting to wish that I didn't say I would help lol.

Thanks Vintagelover!

I sent your recommendations over and all were rejected.

She doesn't want sidestones or mele anywhere. Plain band.

For what it's worth I really liked that last one!

I'm telling him again to call GOG and then washing my hands of this.

Maybe this .79 ct one? Not fabulous, but it's a lone solitaire, yellow gold band, doesn't have a huge, honkin' bow tie, hasn't been clarity enhanced, is the best oval solitaire ring I'm seeing in the $1500-2000 price category (it's $1889) and Sumpter's, in my experience, promptly issues a refund if you return a jewelry piece to them:

Gypsy: I think the J looks good. Unfortunately friend's girlfriend feels a J is lower quality than the uncertified H so no dice. Thank you so much for the effort!

Niel: I like that setting. JA seems to have a few similar that can hold an oval.

I told him that I'm bowing out because his girlfriend clearly wants the massively overpriced uncertified stone. Just get her what she wants.

And I'm going to gush over it knowing it's not a great stone and costs double what it should.

Tell him to tell her he's got it under control and he knows what she wants and to let him surprise her now. That way he can reach out to GOG and get her something better for a better price.

I know this is under a ct but not too deep and seems very bright! And can't beat that price, plus if he says. 7cts was gaudy, half ct might be perfect. And the color/clarity seem to be what she's into. And I know it says only rounds, princesses, but ovals are so close to round they may make an exception. I've seen them do it. I think its a little bit nicer than there other ones of similar quality.

SHe doesn't want a half carat. Too small she says.

I tries explaining that the actual size difference from 0.5 to 0.6 to 0.7 is actually very small, but this girl is particular.

She wants at least 0.6 but 0.7 is too big

DH is telling me to just stop trying to help because I am getting so annoyed about it.

I did give my friend info on PS and suggested he check out the diamond education portion of the GOG website.

He did demand his deposit back on the uncertified stone so there is some progress and willingness to learn.

He will be on the hunt for a 0.6 carat oval, h, si2, cut doesn't matter. This is what they think a "good value" looks like after dealing with Spence.

I edited because they might stumble on this thread.

OK. One last try.

Close to 0.6 CTS and it will LOOK like it as its a shallow. A color clarity combo she will like and he can afford a nice setting to pair with it. Cut seems...cut I dunno but he doesn't seem concerned about that.

Thanks everyone!

I think at this point they'be been brainwashed by Spence. They're telling me no online and to vintage because they want a lifetime warranty on the ring, center stone included. They were told by their sales person that any reputable jeweler will offer a lifetime warranty on a ring. It's one of those situations where you have to get the ring inspected every 6 months or warranty is void. They were actually told that the higher price will be worth it because they won't need to buy insurance. What about theft

I told them my Cartier ring didn't come with a lifetime warranty.

the eBay one from Sumpters? Buy it and get it appraised? - can be returned?
