Like most rookies I must agree that this site/forum is an incredible source of information. After reading this forum I have gone from completely clueless to somewhat informed. Anyway I have found a diamond for an engagement ring and would like some opinions.

Also, if I decide to go with this ring would a platinum, solitary setting look good? Thanks in advance.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know a ton about princesses in general, but I can tell you a few things.

1. Princesses show color really easily, so an I might be too yellow if you're looking for a really white diamond. I would stick with H and above if it were me.

2. To properly evaluate a fancy stone like a princess, we really need an ASET and/or Idealscope image. There can be bad light leakage with some stones, so this is important. I don't think BN will provide this for you, but Whiteflash will.

3. The face up pattern (and symmetry of that pattern) can really vary on princesses, so it's best to go with one that has pictures.

If it were ME I would buy an AGS000 princess stone if I couldn't see pictures and ASET/Idealscope, because that pretty much guarantees a great stone with great sparkle and light return

Check out Whiteflash and their AGS princesses and ACA princesses (who also has an upgrade policy that BN doesn't). They will provide you will the customer support and extra information that you really need when buying a fancy diamond. They are also some of the nicest princesses I've seen.

Hope that helps!

ETA: I did notice that this one has one image on the other cert. To be honest, I don't love that pattern and picture, it looks cloudy. It could just be the picture...but I don't know. The nice thing about BN is they have a 30 day return policy, so you could buy it and check it out yourself first if you have the time.

J,

Do a search here about certification by AGS for Princess cut diamonds. Blue Nile, from what I can tell, is just a bone-head operation on Princess cut diamonds.

I would not pay a premium for what they say is a "signature-ideal" for this cut.

BTW, for rounds, and other cuts where AGS hasn''t set up standards for ideal, they''re pretty swell.
