I have been lurking for a few months on PS and have been very surprised and informed with everyones knowledge!
My BF and I have been looking for rings for quite a few months now and are getting more and more confused with every store and ring we look at.
To make a very long process sound short...I have come to the conclusion that I want a round 1.00-1.25 no lower than I in color. I like a pretty simple band, no side stones just micro pave. He wants to stay around 6-6,500$.
We are in Arkansas and prices here are insane compared to those in say Tulsa. We even have a friend who is a jeweler and could do no better than about 8,000 for an H 1.01.

So we went back to Tulsa for the 2nd time yesterday and went to Israel Diamond and found the perfect setting and wedding band. The diamond was I in color, SI2, 1.20 and with diamond, setting, and wedding band, total was $4975. Does this sound like a good idea? Or are we just being blinded by what sounds to be just an insane deal?

Is SI2, I risky? Will I be disappointed after a while? Help!

Is it a GIA or AGS stone?

Sounds like it''s one of those "too good to be true" things, judging by the price and that it''s I, SI2.

We need cert information. Who''s cert is it GIA orAGS. The numbers off the cert like pav height/angle crown height/angle depth table etc. Idealscope and/or ASET would be nice. Sounds too good to be true. Is it eyeclean?

Yes it is eye clean. And at first we had picked out a 1.08 H SI1 and it was going to be about 5495 I believe, so I asked my boyfriend to call back and ask about something more along the lines of a 1.25 and he had to look and call us back. So he called us back with that stone that was already set in another ring, and my boyfriend went in and looked at it and he said it looked great.
The associate said "its the difference between getting a Lexus with black leather, or a Lexus with brown leather" referring to the difference with the H and the I.
But I will try and get that other information to you.

So we called and had an appraiser go look at the stone.
The appraiser said that the stone is a beautiful stone, and getting all of that for $5,000 is a great price.
So...it is
Color: I
Size: 1.20 ct
Clarity: SI2
Depth: 62.9
Table: 61.0
Girdle: Thin-Thick
Symmetry: Good
EGL certified, and they had the stone appraised for $8,800.
The low end of the appraisal by this appraiser would be $6,225, high end would be $9,500.

Let me know what you think! Is it a good idea??

It''s very important to know which EGL Lab. If it is not a US lab, then you are probably getting a very liberal (inaccurate) grade for color/clarity and the price may not be the bargain you think.

There''s usually a good reason prices of diamonds are what they are...it''s easy to overpay, but much more difficult to underpay.

You need to convince yourself that you are getting fair value for your $.

Hey Gary,

Thanks for the EGL lab info. I didn''t know that there were different EGLs. We thought about going with GIA or AGS but we''ll keep the EGL lab location in mind next time.
