This is my first posting to this forum. I''m not officially supposed to be on here yet since I haven''t gotten my engagement ring, but since the date is set for December 6th I really need to start looking for a dress!

I am getting married in low-country in South Carolina. Our event will be in a chapel at a resort, but there will be portions of the evening where we are outside. Does anyone have a recommendation for a winter wedding dress? They all look so summery to me.

Thank you for your help

here''s the link to my dress thread that i''ll be wearing for my december wedding :)

i''d say either go with stark white with lots of glitteryness on it or for a deeper ivory.

i tried this dress on and it looks super wintery. the skirt had a really subtle sparkle that was super beautiful (the picture doesn''t do the dress justice at all - looks much better on!)

i gotta go but i''ll post more later!

I think strapless dresses look much more "summer" than other kinds. They are the most popular look, but there are some amazing options with straps and sleeves.

What is your price range? Anything special you like or don''t like? Anything else we should know to help you find a dress?

Wow, you guys are fast! Here is the link to the brochure for the venue. You can see the interior of the chapel and also a great outside shot of it I think on page 4. It''s on a river and you can actually see the river through the windows at the altar. The chapel is really simple on the inside, but it has a dramatic setting. The wedding will be very small, probably around twenty people. Other than that, i haven''t decided anything. I have a feeling that my dress budget is going to be largely dependent upon whether I find an expensive dress that I can''t live without! But I was honestly hoping not to spend more than a couple thousand dollars.

Thanks!

Mimzy, your dress is very beautiful and you look lovely in it. Are you getting married anywhere cold?

Brazen, I just realized that I didn''t actually answer your post very well. I sent the link to the resort because I''m trying to find a dress that fits my setting. As far as what I like - I like v-necklines and straps that go off the shoulder. Anything straight across or strapless makes me look like a little boy, not a good look for your wedding day.

I''m about 5''6" and 135 pounds, so pretty medium sized.

I haven''t even tried anything on. I''ve gone to a couple of stores in Florida and they were absolutely filled with strapless, straight-across wedding dresses. And I feel like an idiot going into a bridal store without my engagement ring. I feel like they''re thinking, sure she''s engaged . . .

I think my ring should be done by end of the month though! Knock on wood.

Your venue is beautiful! Very classy!

I totally have a thing for Watters gowns!

This color would be awesome for winter:

The shrug on this would be good for cooler weather

Cute and not strapless

This one is sorta "winter whimsical"

I just wanted to say also that I think the Watters models are awful so please don''t let the way the gowns look on them deter you.

You posted while I was dress searching... so some of the ones I posted may not work. There''s one off-the-shoulder that is beautiful though and one has a slight sweetheart neck that is pretty flattering on anyone... even if it is strapless.

Thank you

We were having a hard time choosing between getting married in a church or on the water so it was a great compromise. A chapel you can see the water from.

The Watters dresses are really lovely. I''m going to look over their whole website. I did the store locator and they are in a bridal store about ten miles away from my house! I will keep you posted if I find anything.

You might also check out www.mcbridals.com and www.demetriosbride.com/. They are in your price range and they have some great v necks and off the shoulders. Be sure to check out the best sellers at mon cheri, there are a lot of realy lovely dresses.

You are right! Those sweetheart necklines help us flat-chested girls out a lot!

Wow! I cannot believe you guys keep recommending a shop so close by to me. I will definitely go to Demetrios on Saturday. I wasn''t able to find the "best sellers" at mon Cheri, but I will keep looking.

Thanks

We went to a January wedding the the bride wore Melissa Sweet''s Lia. It IS a strapless gown, but in Ivory it was stunning. Marrisa makes a similar dress that is more affordable... I know you said no strapless but the heavy satin on this gown and it''s elegant simplicity really make it work for a winter wedding IMO.

Paloma Blanca has some STUNNING gowns with straps and V necks right now. Her website is a flash one I would definitely take a look (the knot doesn''t have any of her nice dresses posted). She has some of the nicest natural fabics and contruction of gowns around your budget.

I would stay far away from organza gowns.

If you are really into designers then check out bridepower.com. They sell discounted sample dresses and they have a lot of great deals. You can search by style or designer.

Wow Gyps-that dress is GORGEOUS!

I don''t know what I was doing wrong before but I couldn''t find ANYTHING on the internet that I liked. Now I''ve fallen in love with every single designer you guys have shown me! I''m swooning over the Anne Barge and Paloma Blanca dresses. Very "old Hollywood glamour", like you said. I''m definitely thinking something straight and sophisticated.

Yeah, the anne barges are beautiful. La Fleur is what her new line is called. I''ve always loved her stuff.

And I love Paloma. I like natural fabrics and at under 2K... they are hard to find. Plus there''s no overly ornate stuff on her site. I''m not an ornate person. I like it for other people (like Reem) but for myself... I dont''.

If you're looking for Hollywood Glam, be sure to check out Alvina Valenta. She (?) does the sleek, glam thing pretty well:

That second one is WOW. NICE choices. How are her prices (says the three dress bride with 5 months to go).

I'm not sure, Gypsy. Most are silk, so I'd guess anywhere between $2000-$3500, depending on embellishments.

p.s. I just saw a few new designs I'm SO glad I didn't see while planning my wedding. I would have been a 4 or 5 dress bride!

Yeah. I''m not having a Holywood Glam wedding. WHEW. I do REALLY love my dress. And your was PERFECT for you. The Alvina''s cost about where I would have put them. They are lovely. ESPECIALLY that second one.

Oh, glloyd77, your wedding is at my dream location! I had first seen it as an ad in a magazine, and then one of the InStyle Weddings had a featured couple who got married there! I even contacted Palmetto Bluff...but it was way out of my price range.

Can't wait to hear more about your wedding, and live vicariously through you!

Oh, and about the shopping sans ring: me, too. I am still waiting for mine (had the diamond since December!), but I never let it bother me. When I worked in a bridal shop, I never really had too many girls coming in to try on gowns "for fun", so I wouldn't worry about it much. Besides, some people chose to not wear rings at all!

Reva Mivasagar "Leaf" --maybe not what you are looking for, but the train is so gorgeous!

ETA: Link won't work!

Here is a picture of the train:

Thanks Amandine! I went to her website and talk about some stunning dresses. Very unique too, but still very elegant. She doesn''t have any locations near Florida though.

Love your dog pic

Oh my gosh, I love love love that first dress. It''s really what I had in mind with getting away from the summer strapless look. And my name is Maggie so it must be a sign, right??? Can you tell me what her dresses run in cost?
