Hey,
I am new to looking at diamonds and been searching for a few weeks...
I''d like to get a cushion above 1.7, my price range is pretty much under 11k(but as far under would be great...)

I have been to stores in my area and not lead to a whole lot of cushions.

I saw a Cushion 1.63 for around 11k(pre tax), VS1, G, which I liked in person a lot, but it was pretty small...

I have also been looking at a Cushion 1.72, VS2, H, which is a great price, 58 table, 68 depth, which the lady assures me is a great cut, but it hasnt been doing it for me in person fully, I cant tell if its the lighting, or I don''t like it, or im just worried...I saw it next to some rounds and they really shocked me how good they looked and it looked yellowish and not as great in comparison... Although I am not great at knowing what to look for.

I then found this one on GOG, which is right in my price range, and I would probably buy it in an instant if not for the I color on it, which I am worried about my GF noticing since she has been picky before about color...

Also I don''t really know how the videos compare to seeing it in real life, which scares me...

Can you give me thoughts on the diamond on the link?

Also one issue for me is I would like to give it to her in a ring, however i''d like to let her pick the band after, so basically get it set in something cheap that I could possibly return, doing this with GOG would be pretty difficult I''d think... if I bought the VS2 above she would refund me the band and give me 40% off all her bands, which is pretty enticing...

I need a ring by june 2 and don''t know what to do!!

EDIT: What also worries me is the 64 table on the GOG... seems rather high... I heard you should stay under 60 on the table..?

Someone said I should repost with cushion in the topic to get more help... Sorry if I shouldnt have done that.

haha sorry! the only reason i said is because you seem to be on a tight deadline! sorry if this is against the rules, I am new but enjoy PS as a diversion

Hi CB

Its difficult to tell how the stone in the store compares to the GOG diamond, but I would assume that the GOG diamond has the superior cut. There is some leakage that can be seen under the table in the images, ask Jon if this is visible in regular viewing conditions. What I would do is ask Jon what he could suggest, if he thinks this one would suit you and ask him how the I colour shows itself or if he can suggest another stone. I take it this is the type of cushion you want rather than one with ' chunkier' faceting?

How do you tell from the images that there is light leakage under the table??

On your question, I would like it chunkier, I just don''t want a big bow tie effect in the middle because I know she won''t like that.

If you look at the ASET and Idealscope/ DiamXray image you can see around the table there is a paler area that can be seen, particularly to the right of the table in the images. Having said that, Jon from GOG is extremely particular about the stones he will offer his upgrade policies on and so forth, so it must meet his high standards for optical performance and beauty. Although some leakage can be seen on the images, it is possible it does not affect the beauty or performance of the stone, ask Jon and he will be able to elaborate for you.

These are good links to explain how ASET and Idealscope images work,

If you would prefer the chunkier style cushion, speak to Jon to ask him what else he has available, he might be able to suggest another stone that is of higher colour also and might suit you better. As to bow ties, tell Jon your concerns and he will be able to advice, but you often see what is called a ' maltese cross' in some cushions and these are prevalent in Jon's signature August Vintage Cushions, do you think this effect would bother your GF?

The ' maltese cross' shows well in the photo of the cushion in the link below,

I have a feeling she won''t like the maltese look as much, but not totally sure.

Should I be looking at the video more, or ASET''s more...? The money back guarantee is nice because at least if she hated it I could get her something else, which a lot of places won''t really offer...

I do like the one in the photo personally, but not sure if she will like that look... Also it is kinda smaller than what she was looking for.

I was also wondering, does the table really matter at all on cushions?
I have seen 53, 58, 64, etc... and they all look completely different.. It seems like 53 and 64 could look almost identical sometimes, I dont understand if it matters or not when dealing with cushions.
