Hello all!

I am recentyly engaged (10/18/06) My fiancee took me to a jewelry store where his family has close ties with. His sister and mom have been customers and friends with the owner and owner''s mom for more than ten years. We purchased a 0.90 round cut E VVS1 diamond. I know absolutely nothing about diamonds. The only experience I have with diamonds were a pair of 1ct earrings from my dad. Having said that, since my fiancee and his family trusts the jeweler we didn''t get any certification. I just want to know what are your thoughts on the ring. Does it look like a E VVS1? Thank you in advance!

I also want to get my ring certified but do not want to it on-line. Is there any place in the LA/OC are where I can get like a GIA certification or something?

You might note Kenny''s comments in the thread marked below:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ok-to-use-igi-for-appraisal.52090/

But, check out the suggestions there generally, too, about using an appraiser, since you might want to do that, instead. It appears your diamond is set, and probably, GIA will not certify it without it being un-set, and they probably won''t do that, for you.

congratulations on your engagement and welcome to ps!
your ring looks just lovely! unfortunately there is no way in the world that anyone could even remotely guess the color/clarity. just no way. as ira mentioned, you could get an independent appraisal if you are that interested. keep in mind that once set, the color/clarity can only be determined within 2 grades, as it is more difficult to assess a mounted stone.

enjoy your ring whatever you decide you need to do!

Thank you so much for the replys! I do love love love my ring and if the owner says it''s an E VVS1 then I''m sticking to it

It was exactly what I wanted and when I was choosing there weren''t any price tags *gasp* I was actually quite shocked the fiancee just let me try one setting after another to go with my diamond. I love the guy but he really VALUES his money. I think I found a new hobby...hehe...must work those extra shifts at the hospital
