So my mother gave me a ring a few years ago that was an heirloom piece. The thing is she was really attached to this ring and was alittle heartbroken to give it up. It has been through a lot. When her and my father were dating they were waterskiing in the inlet and she dropped the ring into the water. Thankfully my dad had scuba gear and 5 extra hours to search for it. It has been lost several times by both of us and always manages to get found, in the weirdest places. Anyway I wanted to get it replicated with a few minor changes as an anniversary present, and it is a ways away so I have plenty of time to plan and get everything underway.

My idea is to get all of our birthstones in it instead of diamonds. Both me and my sister were born in August so I figured get 2 peridots one big for me, and a smaller one for the little sister. A sapphire for my grandpa, a diamond for my dad and an emerald for my grandma. I''m just wondering if everything would look to "busy"

any comments, or ideas would be great!

Thanks!

I don''t think it would look to busy considering the style of the piece. I think it''s great that your doing it for your mom! She''ll love it! Great idea!

Have you considered having a replica of it made into a brooch or a necklace/brooch combination, like they do with cameos? I think it would be nice to have an heirloom set, as opposed to 2 rings.

I like this idea.

ditto the idea of a brooch neat idea

I think the brooch idea is perfect. That design would make a stunning one.

Oh, I do really like that idea.
I have to talk to my dad and sister as this is a gift from all of us. But I think they would be down since they gave me creative freedom.
And my mom loves brooches, so I know she would love it

Gemstones would be period-correct; a lot of semiprecious and non diamond gems were used with Art Nouveau jewelry. If you go for a brooch or necklace (which BTW is a fabulous idea!) you could get a baroque pearl drop at the bottom- lots of Art Nouveau figural brooches & necklaces in this style had them.

What a sweet thing to do for your mom, the brooch sounds perfect.

I ADORE that idea. I''m gonna talk to my mom about things, but try to be sneaky.
I think she would like it too tho!

I think that is such a nice idea, but I think I would duplicate it with the diamonds like the original.

I too like the brooch idea. As for it looking too busy... Not at all! I think it is fitting with the style of the piece.

I like the brooch idea too! Go for it!

Oooh, cool ring. A brooch would be nice too....

I thought about that, but it would be alot more money, and my dad thought it might be neat to do the birthstones. He was actually pretty excited about that idea, and that''s the only real input he has so I would want to stay with that. But I love the idea of staying as close to the original as possible!

Lovely ring!
