I am an admitted newbie, so please help me understand the concept of nailhead diamonds, and why a diamond as deep as a hearts & arrow cushion would not be considered one?

I am looking at using a local jeweler to custom make a replacement of my stolen engagement ring. I directed the jeweler to the GOG website to look at the H & A cushions to see the kind of diamond I am leaning towards. However they indicated that diamonds like that would be dark because they are nailheads.

This didn''t sound right to me since I have watched numerous GOG videos and the H & A cushions always seem to perform brilliantly, literally. Could someone please help me clarify things for myself.

Thank you!

The pictures show they are clearly not nailheads.
Fancy shape diamonds have different rules than RB''s
You got a line of bull from the jeweler.

Your local jeweler is calling the H&A cushion a nailhead because (a) he does not know what he is talking about and (b) because he wants to scare you away from buying on-line. He also has no clue about H&A cushions.

If he is not telling the truth about the diamond I would wonder about his honesty and ability to make you your new ring. Also, if you do get your diamond from GOG is your jeweler going to be responsible for the diamond while they are setting it? You better check. It usually does not happen but the diamond setter can chip or scratch your diamond while setting it.

Roxie you don't have to take GOG's word for what they look, here are some videos taken from another vendor:

You will need Apple Quicktime 7.0 to view these files.

If those look like a big dull nailhead to you I'll eat my hat!
