Hi all,

I am looking at purchasing the following diamond but it scored an HCA score of 2.5 which was a bit offputting though the price is definitely right. I have been told the stone is full of life and brilliance and has excellent light performance.

GIA- Excellent Cut
Size: 1.11 - 6.63x6.73x4.13
Color: I
Clarity: Si2 (eye clean according to BGD)
Flr: Medium Blue
Table: 57%
Depth: 61.8%
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion Angle: 41
Polish: Ex
Symmetry: Ex

Should I say no to this stone due to the HCA score?

Also, would a normal person (non-pricescoper) see this diamond and still think its beautiful or will it look drab and bad?

Thanks!

What is the lower half size?

BGD should be able to provide idealscope image to see if leakage is apparent.

I believe its 80% if I am reading it right..

I'd reject diamonds that score over 2.0 on the HCA and get Idealscope pics on those that score under 2.0.

That combo can be just fine.
Ask for an IS or ASET image.

Is this a stone BG has in-house or a stone that you had them call in? I really only buy in-house stones from BG and WF because they have their stones cut to ideal proportions. I'd certainly value Brian's opinion on the stone. What does he say?

It is not an in-house stone but from a cutter that they have an on-going relationship with that they said is trustworthy. They reported that the manufacturer confirmed that the diamond has excellent light return and is very brilliant and very full of life. The only inclusion is a pinpoint on the edge of the table that cant be seen unless up close to the stone.

A diamond with only one pinpoint would not get an SI2 grade.

Is this the diamond? . . .

That's the one. I was curious about that too...

What do you think is going on with this one?

shameless bump!

For the small number of inclusions, I'm guessing that the one in the table area is more than a pinpoint and that the stone may be eyeclean to some folks but not all. In all fairness, you'd either have to see the stone or have a vendor that you trust eyeball it to tell you what they think.

If there were many inclusions throughout the stone - although tiny - I wouldn't think so much about the one in the table. However, that doesn't appear to be the case. I'm no expert though and the judgment is better left to the experts or to the potential buying consumer.

If you are looking for an eye clean SI2 I strongly recommend having the stone sent to an appraiser before it is sent to you.
