Hi! First time post, and wanted to thank everyone for the great advice. I''m buying an engagement ring and have been using the HCA as a cutoff for well cut diamonds.

My question is this: How do I reconcile a Very Good GIA cut grade with a HCA score < 2.0?

Ex 1: Round 1.31c H VS1
VG cut / Ex polish / Ex sym
D 61.8%
T 55%
CA 36.5
PA 40.2
HCA 1.1 Ex/Ex/Ex/VG

Ex 2: Round 1.56c H SI1
VG cut / VG polish / VG sym
D 59.1%
T 58%
CA 33.5
PA 40.6
HCA 0.6 Ex/Ex/Ex/Ex

Will the rounding off of the GIA numbers make any of these diamonds worse than a 2.0 on the HCA calculator in reality?
Do these look like good diamonds on paper?

Both are outside of GIA Ex parameters, which you can see when you use the HCA. They are ploted as Green dotted outline.

#1 is a FIC, could be graded an AGS0 by AGS though, so it is the safer bet in my opinion.

#2 is a little bit shallower on the pavilion side for that crown angle, might result in a darkening of the stone when viewed too closely.

Welcome to Pricescope,

I doubt there will be an issue with the second diamond looking dark so I wouldn't worry too much, it isn't an extreme shallow combo. Can you get Idealscopes for both diamonds? These images will be of more value than the HCA in this case. If you want to pursue the SI1, make sure it is eyeclean to your standards by checking carefully with the vendor.

You need pictures/Ideal Scope for these combos.

Thanks for the replys! I was able to see them both under the brilliantscope (no pics) and they both seemed ok with nice arrows and a pink background. I think the inclusion in the SI1 was a little too central for my tastes, and will change my search pattern to G/VS2 lower limit.

Still searching the online vendors for stones in my price range! I''m sure something will pop up.

Thanks for the update and that sounds very reasonable!
