Hi everyone! Oh man, where do I start.. I was engaged with my CER Emilya back in April 2018. I absolutely love my ring and had it resize from 5 to 4.5. Unfortunately, I have lost some more weight and 4.5 is still loose on my finger. To be honest, I haven't enjoyed the e-ring as much as I had imagine because I've been always fearful of losing it despite using a ring guard. The ring guard helps but doesn't do much to alleviate my anxiety. Another thing to note is I am also left handed. Typically, I don't wear my e-ring to work, only weekends, despite having an office job. However, yesterday, I woke up feeling good enough to enjoy the ring. I was at work, making coffee, then while I was taking the elevator down (elevator lighting is awesome and sparkly) and I noticed that one pave stone on the halo was not sparkly at all. The one right of the hazy stones also looked off - like there's a dark ring. Please see the below photo. I tried to wash it gently with dish soap and it didn't do anything. I'm completely lost as to what could have happened. Could I have damaged it? Is something wrong with the setting of the pave stone? I've already reached out to Nicholas at Victor Canera and I'm certain I will be sending the ring down for an evaluation. However, I am leaving on vacation in a couple of days and won't be back until late March so I'm not sure if I should ship the ring down now or wait until late March when I return from my vacation. I'm actually headed to Italy to take engagement pictures with my fiance and so I'm particularly upset at this situation. I know I wasn't going to to take the ring with me but the thought that my ring is now damaged just bothers me so much. Fiance tried to console me, I'm so incredibly upset at myself. I don't even wear this ring every day and I've tried so hard to keep it pristine and this still happens. If any one of you can potentially let me know what could have happened, I'd greatly appreciate it. Knowing what happened can really help understand what I need to do to care for my ring. Perhaps I need to wear it on my right hand, or really understand that the emilya is a delicate setting and may not be right for my lifestyle. Thank you so much for listening and I really appreciate it.

Honestly, I can't really see the haze that you're talking about. It looks like just a table reflection in this picture, although it may just be hard to capture on camera. But if it is indeed hazy, it could be a number of things. It may have been damaged/cracked at some point while you were wearing it, although this is unlikely. It may just be grimy, although dirt on a single stone while the others are crystal clear would be equally unusual. It may also be that the diamond was always like this and you just never looked closely at it before which, IMO, is the most likely.

In any case, don't worry. Everything will be alright. :) Even if there is something wrong with the stone (either damage or just a cloudy/milky stone to begin with) replacing a single small pave diamond in a halo is not a big deal at all. Maybe a $100 at most for such a job (although probably less).

How far are you from LA? Because if you're in a position where you would need to send the ring in the mail, I would honestly take it to a trusted local jeweler/appraiser first to get their opinion before you spend a bunch of $$$ sending the ring FedEx/UPS with $20-30k insurance to VC. If it's something as simple as a dirty stone, then IMO it would be a giant waste of time and money to send it out of state for an initial check.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and for your kind reassurance. Yes, the picture isn't a good representation of what I see in real life. It's definitely challenging to capture on camera but the milky/haziness is definitely there.

I am in the Bay Area and truthfully, I don't know of any trusted local jewelers. There's one jeweler that my friends go to, it's a well known place but when I first went ring shopping there, they looked at me like I was crazy for wanting an OEC and said it's not valuable like an MRB, so I'm not entirely sure I'm comfortable in asking for their assistance.. If anyone is from the Bay Area/Peninsula and have suggestions, please do let me know.

I guess at any rate, I shouldn't be in too much of a rush to fix the situation since I will be going away soon. If I send it down to VC, I am going to have him resize or reshank the ring too. I thought that perhaps it was too loose on my finger and I must have banged it on something and caused the stone to be hazy. From what I know, if the stone was always like this (defective), I believe VC covers the shipping and the cost of having it fixed but I am not certain and will have to check with them.

I would definitely send it to VC to have it evaluated and sized. Sizing pave is hard and no way would I trust anyone except the maker!

They will fix it. Don't worry to much and have a great trip!

Agreed. @kuriso I didn't know you were thinking about getting it re-sized anyway. If that's the case, then sending it to VC does seem like the best option to both check the pavé stone and get it sized at the same time. Always best to send it to the person who made the ring when it comes to sizing an intricate setting with pavé on the shank. They obviously know the ring best, so I would only trust the job with them. :)

Thank you both for the reassurance. It’s good to know that this isn’t anything I need to worry about. I’ll be sure to update once it is fixed
