Hi All - A hearty thanks to all that have provided so much useful information on this site! Like so many others, I''m a newbie that has gained (and continues to gain) a great deal of education by reading through the various posts and suggested links. And also like many others, I''m swimming a little bit from data overload.

I had intended to narrow the by search for an engagement ring diamond to the following:
Princess
1.25 - 1.5 ct
VS1-SI1
H-G
64% - 75% Depth
60% - 74% Table
8.5% - 16% Crown Height
Thin - Thick +- Girdle
(These measurements are based on the cut classes of 1A and 1B found here)

Once I had established this "universe", I intended to pick the best cut/cost combination (essentially, the best cut without melting the budget of 8250).

However I''m coming up blank in my online search for a diamond that fits these parameters and either has an AGS cert (attractive for the stringent grades), or some other trusted cut grade, or provides an some other quantifiable light or cut grade (ie idealscope, etc).

I would have guessed I would have had at least a few "hits" using these parameters, but as I say I''m a newbie and so maybe my expectations are way off. For those folks with more experience - are these results uncommon? Should I be looking somewhere else?

Thanks for your input!

Have you checked out Whiteflash.com''s line of ACA princesses? They''re gorgeous! I just did a quick search there and it looks like there are a lot to choose from around the 1 carat mark but they''re aren''t as many in the 1.2 to 1.5 carat range. Maybe you can call and ask if they''re going to get any in soon. They cut the diamonds themselves so they would probably know if there are any coming in that will fit the bill.

Also, they can search for a princess for you in databases that aren''t necessarily public. That''s how they found my radiant and it''s great!

welcome boonebeach!

try opening up your search color and clarity wise and see if you get more options. also, don''t worry too much about the numbers restrictions on the measurements. ags has already done that work for you.

I forgot to mention the ones I saw at WF: a 1.19 H IF for $7342 and a 1.21 I VVS2 for $5870. Not exactly what you were looking for, but probably worth considering since you can''t find anything right in your range. Also, Whiteflash and GoodOldGold both have a great upgrade policy so you can always up the carat or color at a later date if you really can''t find the exact diamond you''re looking for in the timeframe you need it in. (Just offering that up as a worst case scenario thing!)

I think it's the size range, in addition to the fact that ideal-cut princesses are relatively new to the market. You're looking at a very popular size, so many of the diamonds have already been bought. You may need to widen your color/clarity range because of this...for example, broaden it to include I/SI2. By doing that, I found a few in your budget:

Here's an H/SI2 that's worth checking out to see if it's eye-clean. However, it's AGS1, not AGS0 (loses points for symmetry).

This I/SI2 is AGS0; again, make sure it's eye-clean.

F/SI1 here, but it's on the lower end of the size range.

And here's a gorgeous cut corner square brilliant, which will be more durable than a princess and face up slightly larger. Make sure it's eye-clean and it could be a winner!

That last one gets my vote because it's a nice color/clarity combo (if eye-clean), large, not too far off from square, and cut-cornered.

If you can go to $8675, here''s a beauty for you!

This one''s not too far from your price point, andis quickly found on the search by cut db.

Applying both AGA standards and AGS may unnessarily pull you in different directions. Related, I frequently post this missive from Garry on this.

Wow...you guys are good. Thanks for the options. I''m collecting the specs on the "finalists" and will post them for input and hopefully make the final decision today.
