Hey Psers!!! yet another confirmed stalker comes out! I have been reading this forum for a WHILE now and I want to say thank you too everyone! I have learned so much from this forum, it really has made this whole engagement ring search easier!

Ok, so my boyfriend and I started our search for engagement rings recently! (how exciting!!!!) And I have decided that I am absolutely in love with the shared prong eternity style settings/bands. I have narrowed it down to THREE settings that I like but I really need some help determining WHICH to actually tell my BF that I want!
Here are the 3 settings i have narrowed it down to....

1) WF "diamond for an eternity" setting
http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/-Diamonds-for-an-Eternity-_998.htm

2) facets collection eternity setting
http://www.thefacetscollection.com/item.cfm?item_id=3827

3) Memoire petite prong eternity setting
http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/memoire-jewelry/rings/
(Item 13yyI)

I have a size 4.5 finger (I was measured once as a 4.25 and then as a 4.5 so i think im going to go with the 4.5 since I am doing an eternity band, it is TRUE that they cant be resized correct?) and does your ring size reallly change?? I do plan on having a child ONE day do your fingers tend to swell or perm. become larger?
I guess my questions are the following:
1) does anyone actually have any of these rings that they can show me hand shots of?? to help me make a decision
(personally I think I cant go wrong with any of the 3 I think they are all beautiful)
2) what width band would look good on a size 4.5 finger -i dont want it to be too bulky looking
3) Does anyone reccommend one on these OVER the other for any reason??

I am sure I have MORE questions but I can''t think of them right now...they will come back to me!
I appreciate any INPUT/advice you can give!!!
Thank you!

LOL! Those are the exact rings I''m looking at too, for my reset next year.

I know there are ladies on here with each of these styles, so hopefully they will chime in. In another thread I read today about shared prong ring sets causing problems from rubbing together, someone mentioned that the Memoire setting was supposedly designed to prevent this sort of action. So I''ll look at that one more closely too. I believe the Raphael style at Facets is more similar to the Memoire, but not sure offhand if it comes in full eternity for the ER.

After 24 years of marriage and two kids, plus some extra weight, my ring size did fluctuate, but seems stable now at one full size above when I first got married. Obviously this is different for everyone. I feel confident now in buying (and loving!!) full eternity rings because my size is not going to change this far along. It also depends on the width (mm) of the rings. The wider they are, the more likely a size change is going to affect the fit.

Good luck. Hoping people show up with pics for you too.

Thanks lyra!! We have similar tastes! hehe

When I inquired about the WF diamond for an eternity setting they sent me this picture of the ring and band together!
It LOOKS as if it will sit flush and not rub...but I am still not 100% sure
(Picture hopefully was attached??) this is my 1st time posting a picture!
Thank you for your response!

I have also seen some of these rings out there in PS somewhere! But I didnt save any of the posts and now I am having a hard time finding them again....

Pictures anyone??

If budget isn't an issue, i'd go for the memoire. they are some of the finest made eternity bands out there but they are priced higher than WF or Facets. you can read about the method they use to make the rings at www.memoire.com but here's some of it:

Hot Extrusion.
Most of our mountings are made using the hot extrusion process. Before a mounting is cut, the chosen metal is pushed through a tube with enormous force and heat. This pressure eliminates porosity (air bubbles) from the metal. The result is a platinum or 18K gold mounting that is solid throughout, strong, hard and exceptionally durable. A standard cast mounting starts with liquid metal that is poured into a mold. As the metal cools and hardens, air can be trapped on the inside causing pits and porosity, which could weaken the finished product. Mémoire’s extruded mountings are laser cut for exactness directly from metal that has undergone the hot extrusion process, eliminating this problem. This process creates the strongest possible prongs to secure the diamonds and precious stones, and a more durable overall ring, designed to last a lifetime.

i also like that they are created to fit together like a puzzle to keep the girdles of the stones from scratching the ring it's sitting next too.

Ditto what mrssalvo said. If you can swing it, I''d go for the memoire version. They use a super hard type of platinum, the rings are engineered to prevent rubbing, and they are known for their high quality. From the picture you posted, it looks as if two of the girdles of the diamonds on the WF version are indeed rubbing, but I''m not an expert in this.

mrssalvo THANK YOU!!! I knew I had seen that ring somewhere on here! (I even had her hand shot saved to my desktop!)
Budget right now is NOT an issue and I do realize that the Memoire setting is a bit more expensive than the others but its worth it to me to get one that fits together nicely and doesnt rub than to pay less and not be 100% satisfied and my BF agrees with that (THANKFULLY!)

that picture is very helpful for me to determine Size/width i like as well (i have a size 4.5 finger) and that band looks PERFECT on you bluedawg! Do we know what width the band is??? or what style I would ask for when i go to try it on?

kcoursolle: Thank you for your 2nd opinion! And you have a much better eye than I do, you are right! they bands doesnt fit flush to the ring!

kgulley,

Bluedawgs ring was made up of 3 or 4 points, each ring was just over 2mm, i think maybe 2.3?? without going back and looking. she wears a size 4, so just under you and i think it would be a gorgeous size on your hand....

ETA: ok, went and looked it up, here's what she said;

OK, the bands are 1.9mm wide; e-ring was supposed to have 0.98 ctw and e-band 1.00 ctw but that was for a size 6... a size 4 gets 0.89 (22 diamonds) and 0.92 (23 diamonds) respectively. Hmm... my math is fuzzy. Does that make them 3 pointers?

We did the math, which made her rings 4 pointers...

Thank you all! You are all soo helpful! I am going to my local Bailey, Banks and Biddle tonight (they are the only place that carries Memoire here in VA) I will see if I can try on some Memoire settings. I have tried on their Purity collection before but the band was a little TOO small for me...too delicate

I will update the post after my visit to BBB tonight and I will let you all know what I think....its too bad i cant try on the WF or Facets rings to compare!

Please feel free to keep posting your opinions/suggestions/experiences with any of these rings!

Thanks again

I would also recommend the Memoire. I just have a wedding band from them, but it is fine quality and does not rub my e-ring like so many others do. You can also choose the diamond quality. They use well cut stones but standard is something like G SI but you can upgrade that a little, if you wish. And of course, you can get the stones in various sizes depending on how wide you want your bands.

Hello! Just an update to all of you who helped me! I went to BBB (of course they have very FEW rings for me to actually try on!!!! grrrrr) so i found a width i liked on my finger in a wedding band (I think it was a little over 1.5ctw but that was a size 6- I am a size 4.5) and then tried on a similar style E-ring eternity with it that was SMALLER (they didn''t have a matching ring in the same width) and I asked her to please get me a quote for the e-ring and band in my size in that width....she said she will call me next week to let me know

the wedding band I tried on was plat. from Memoire and it was in the same case with Memoire but it wasn''t in the PURITY COLLECTION section of the case. The ring i tried on that was a smaller width was from the purity collection part of the case.......BUT when I asked her if they both were from the purity collection she said, oh all of these rings are!! Which I think was a complete LIE (or mistake on her part)

I was a little frustrated with their selection, I was hoping to try on the ring and band together in the same width to see how I liked it but it looks like there is a slim chance of that actually happening...which is frustrating to me! I am interested in seeing what she quotes me for the rings!

Am I crazy for being frustrated about not being able to try on the same width band and ring together? i guess i feel that if my BF is going to be spending that much $ on this purchase that I want to make sure i am 110% happy and 110% sure with the width etc....

I have also made contact with Bill from PEARLMANS about the memoire rings, he is sooooo helpful! (and that was only through email!) he is also going to quote me for some diamonds in the size/specs that i am interested in...Has anyone here bought diamonds from Pearlmans? what was your experience?

Is there any other place I should diamond search?
what about WF...etc??
I am looking for a 1.5-1.7 carat Round Brill. F color, VS2 or (very eye clean) SI1 oh and of course a VERY good cut!

any suggestions??

kgulley,

me again. i got my diamond from pearlmans as well as a few other things like earrings etc. My stone was a AGS000 and just gorgeous. Bill is an absolute doll to work with and I can't recommend him highly enough. I always suggest getting the stone/setting at the same place if possible. If you end up getting the memoire from pearlman's there is no reason not to try and get the stone from them too. often times you can do better on price as well by getting them both at the same place and pearlmans will insure your stone while being set so that is just one less thing you'd have to worry about.

They are all gorgeous but I like the memoire.

Call Bobby at Roberts Fine Jewelry in Houston for Memoire settings. His prices are awesome. I would search for the diamond from WF, GOG, or some other online diamond source. BBB is way overpriced for Memoire.
