One Christmas my kids received a book from a family member and right after my older son opened the gift, the child of that family member informed us that they had gotten that as a gift but they already had the book and so they gave it to us as a present. lol A bit of an awkward moment.

This year we received a box of chocolates and this was the FIRST time I wanted to re-gift since I didn''t want us all eating an entire box of chocolates. What does my DH do? Rip open the paper right after I brought up the idea and gave the boys almost half the box to gobble down! lol So, alas, we are yet to re-gift.

So, have you ever re-gifted and what was the item?

The only time I''ve ever really been tempted was when my grandmother gave me the same handbag twice. She has a "present" drawer and keeps it stocked. I guess she forgot she had already given me that particular bag and grabbed it again. I was really, really tempted to re-gift it, especially since it wasn''t my style the first time I got it. I eventually sold one on Ebay and gave the other to a girlfriend. That wasn''t re-gifting because I told her the story and then handed it to her. :)

I have once-I got a huge drinking game set with lots of shot glasses in it and all other stuff. I''m not a big drinker so it was a bit of a random present. I got this girl in work as my Kris Kindle present and she''s a huge partier and goes out 5 out of 7 nights per week so I regifted it to her and she adored it. She actually had a house party the weekend after and it was taken out and used whereas it would have gathered dust in my own house.

No, but I have been recepient from one person many times over.

Good thread! I haven''t re-gifted a present I''ve gotten, I don''t think...but at a store I used to work at, we would often get free items of our choice, and I used those for gifts on more than one occasion.

It was always nice stuff and I picked it out with the person in mind, but for some reason I always felt a little guilty about it!

I did it once and GOT CAUGHT so NEVER AGAIN!!!! A few years ago, I got this board game from my MIL and I am not a huge game player so I thought I will give it to my BIL (he LOVES GAMES)

. My MIL doesn't always see my BIL so I thought it would be okay and hubby said he thought it was fine. Well my BIL opened it and my MIL happened to be there and she said, this is the SPECIAL EDITION blah blah blah game that I gave Skippy!

OMG, that is too funny. I have regifted, but only do it to people outside of the family.... I keep track also of who gave us what. God forbid I get caught.

My MIL always gives me old crap. Now is that a regift, or is she just cheap?? I mean go to the store woman and buy me something nice for a change. I get that a gravy ladle is a wonderful gift, was in the family. I am not talking about that.

I get these presents in broke ass boxes that have dust on them.

I always tease her about being cheap, she knows it. I just laugh. She is a trip.

Skippy that is HILARIOUS! And embarrassing! Hahaha! It sounds like they were good sports about it, though!

yes I have done it and I was given those gifts too.I do not mind receiving re-cycled gifts.

I havent recycled gifts, recieved them and dont mind depending on the person giving the gift.I have given personal jewery from my own jewelry box and people know that this is a huge compliment because I DONT give from my personal jewelry to just anyone!

Many times, and I don''t really see anything wrong with it! Better than the item finds a happy home than sits unappreciated in my house. I actually have a box for recyclable gifts...

When my father was working in the local hospital he would often be given xmas gifts by ''grateful patients'' and other consultants. One year, after the 3rd bottle of Bell''s Whiskey arrived, he wrapped it up and regifted it to another consultant. This particular bottle had a wrinkled bit at the bottom of the label, so when my father received a bottle with a similar label a few days later from another doctor, he marked it with a tiny x and regifted again.

That bottle came back another 3 times!

I''ve done it to. It usually is books that my kids are given and I usually re-gift them for the book exchanges they do at their school. so the recipient could be any of the kids in my child''s class.

Having worked in a salon where I received many Christmas gifts that either werent my style or would go to waste, yes.

It''s not that I didn''t appreciate the thought, or the kindness that was extended behind the gift...those sentiments didn''t get lost on me, for sure...but sometimes you just have to *stop* yourself from getting one more travel mug, or coffee cup. I mean, you can only drink so much coffee...

So, instead of sticking them in my cabinets and forgetting about them and letting them go to a complete waste...I would give them away. Friends, family, even co-workers, and sometimes Goodwill got these things.

I hope this doesn''t offend anyone! But I find re-gifting horribly tacky! I guess because I''ve received obvious re-gifted items (I have a friend who is notorious for it!). And I don''t know why, it just bothers me. Like for my bridal shower, she gave me a silk nighty and it was WAY too big for me (like obviously too big...I have small boobs, this was made for some a D cup!), it was her size...so I''m thinking she received it for her shower, didn''t like it/use it and re-gifted it to me. I don''t know, I just thought it was horrible!

But that''s just me
