Me and the hubby were given a vacation option by his parents (a time share thing they have where you can pick your place)
and I would love to go to Hawaii, but it is booked until 2008.

We are booking for this January- early February.

Our next 2 places from "warm and beachy" are Mexico and The Dominican.
Have you ever been to either of these countries? We are leaning towards Mexico.....

These are a couple resorts we can stay at...

what do y''all think??

DH and I just returned from our Honeymoon in Mexico. It was divine! We went to a resort about 3 hours south of Puerto Vallarta, it was totally secluded and off the beaten path. I''m not into the very touristy Mexican destinations, like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta- Cabo is also going that route. (this is just MY opinion!)

I LOVE Mexico! Yep, I''m a bit biased as I''m 1/2 Mexican, but you rally cannot find another country like it. The scenery is spectactular, the people are lovely, you can find so many top resorts, and can get a lot of bang for your buck!

Your two choices look excellent. I really like the locales- a bit different than your typical Mexican vacation. Acapulco is old-world charm, and glamourous. It has a lot of history, and although it has a thriving tourism industry, i don''t think it''s completely been "commercialized" It''s been a loooong time since I''ve been there (20 years!), but I have fond memories of it.

I haven''t been to Mazatlan, but have heard good things about it. It has also kept a lot of it''s charm, and the development isn''t as crazy as Puerto Vallarta. I think it''s a bit "sleepier" than Acapulco, but is also more authentic.

Check out this travel website and see if those two resorts are listed. You''ll find a ton of reviews from other members.

GOOD LUCK!

thank you so much for the reply!
I hate trying to book something without knowing too much about the area, etc.

Unfortunately, since it is a package thing, we don''t have a whole lot of say in where we stay. there are some choices, but it gets mind boggling after awhile as you gi through it.

Basically, I am looking for warmth (being that we will be there in January or early Feb) and some shopping. Hubby would like to deep see fish which it looks like we can do at any of these locales....

We do know some people who winter in Mazatlan and I am trying to get in touch with them to find out more about it, but i need to book soon, so I am getting a little antsy.

thanks for the link too, I will check it out!

Hi Sophie, I''m mexican so let me know if you need extra info on something..

Hi Anny, thanks!
Well, between Acapulco, Nueva vaillarta, and Mazatlan, is there one that is better than the other?

I just don''t want to get stuck in a little town where the beach is several miles away, etc. Temperature wise, is there one that is going to be colder or warmer in Mid January, February time??

thanks for any advice you can offer.

Sophie,

My mom and brother both loved Acapulco. There are lots of things to do and the water was beautiful.

I think i''d choose nuevo vallarta... there are 2 beaches there, Puerto Vallarta, and Nuevo Vallarta. Nuevo means New, so Nuevo Vallarta is the new area with recently built resorts, the sunset in vallarta is breathtaking and if you choose a beach front resort you´ll just walk out of your room and step on the sand.

Weather wise, puerto vallarta will be cooler than acapulco. I don''t like Acapulco''s beaches too much but it''s also a great option and has a lot of great resorts.

Mazatlan i can´t give you an opinion ''cause i''ve never been there.

Are those your 3 final options? I think you should consider the Mayan Riviera.. it''s more expensive but it has the most beautiful beaches.
