Has Tony Bennett lost his mind?

His response to Whitney Houston's untimely death was--everybody get together and petition the government to legalize drugs......HELLO--if drugs killed her they were LEGAL DRUGS in all probability provided to her by unethical doctors. Unless she was doctor shopping. Either way I don't get his connection to drugs being sold on the corner. This, combined with his bizarre 9/11 comments make me think he's maybe starting to lose it.

this is what was said, "First it was Michael Jackson," Bennett said. "Then it was Amy Winehouse. and now, the magnificent Whitney Houston. I'd like to have every gentleman and lady in this room commit themselves to get our government to legalize drugs -- so they'll have to get it through a doctor, not to some gangsters who just sell it under the table."

He is talking politics, not losing his mind.

He does have Alzheimers, so I take much of what he says with a grain of salt.

Yeah, poor guy. Besides, they did get it through doctors -- lots of them at once.

To the best of my knowledge Tony Bennett has not been diagnosed with Alzheimers. Are you thinking of Glen Campbell?

Just because its legal does not mean its safe.

edited to add, there are many many doctors who are more interested in money than the safety of their patients and will do whatever for a buck. There are many many good doctors too but far more crooked doctors than many realize.

Yes, that may be true but I am sure there is a much higher percentage of unscrupulous drug dealers amongst drug dealers than unscrupulous doctors amongst doctors!

Tony does not have alzheimer's. My B-I-L is his PA, so I do know this.
I think when Tony said this he wasn't referring to the specific dose that did her in, but the years of recreational illicit drug use that inured her to casual chronic prescription drug abuse. The reasoning being that if pot were legal people would be less likely to graduate to more dangerous drugs. Also that by legalizing, one undoes the mystique and rituals of drug culture that reinforces addiction tendencies.

Whooops! You're right. I remember seeing both of them on the Grammy's and that one of them had Alzheimers.
