Ahhhh, I''m so upset. I recently bought a loose diamond from bluenile for my fiances wedding band. It was supposed to be an SI1 / G 0.52ct AGS000 and after receiving it I thought it looked kind of yellow. So I took it to a couple of local jewellers and they said the diamond looks very yellow, noticeably yellow - almost champagne colored, especially next to my e-ring which is G color. A friend of mine that works at one of the jewellery stores says it looks at best an "I" but I''ve seen lots of "I" color and it looks lower than that to me. This is supposed to be graded by AGS - aren''t they supposed to be one of the best grading labs? Even I can see it when compared to other "G" diamonds and you''d have to be blind not to see it through the loupe, it''s soooo obviously yellow. Has this ever happened to anyone else??

I can return the diamond but I will be out all the shipping money, plus return shipping which is a pain since I live in Canada. I never thought I would be worrying about a diamond not being the color it''s supposed to be, I was paranoid about it being eye clean & sparkly!!

It should be inscribed on the girdle with the AGS cert number - check to be sure the diamond you received matches the certification.

Okay, Sparkle, deep breaths. It could be a variety of things. It is possible that they accidentally sent the wrong diamond. Mistakes do happen. It's not all the time, and it's not on purpose. Have someone check to see if the engraved # on the side of the diamond matches the cert or that the plot is the same. Call Bluenile. They may have a reasonable explanation. Sorry, a G should not be champagne colored. Especially an AGS G. This is very probably an easy fix. If it's their mistake, have them spring for the shipping snafu.

shay

Edited because set and sent are way different.

Are all AGS diamonds laser inscribed?? The cert makes no mention that the diamond is laser inscribed - I know that some AGS certs will make a comment on the diamonds inscription in the comments section. I am going to one more jeweller tomorrow to try and hunt down a gemmologist - at best I will have them check the girdle for an inscription. I will also call blue nile..... I''m crossing my fingers that this will indeed be an easy fix...

Contact BN ASAP, I think you will find they will be keen to find out exactly what has happened, a G in that size with that grading report and cut grade should NOT be yellow. BN will tell you how to proceed.

No, but a lot of Blue Nile diamonds (I believe all of their "signature collection") have laser inscriptions. AGS doesn''t inscribe diamonds after grading them, but they would make a note on the cert if there was an inscription (ie. if someone sent a diamond in to them to be inscribed), like you stated.

That is really really bizarre. Contac them ASAP, it sounds like they sent the wrong stone.

I just got a pendant from BN, ideal cut, and it''s an I and there is hardly a difference in color between that and my G e-ring. Something is definitely wrong.

Something is wrong. It is a great idea to look for a laser inscription. What if the inscription and the cert don''t match? You would have your best evidence and realize the potential value of an inscription. I am sure that BN will go overboard to work with you in making it right.

OK. So they emailed me back and have ASSURED me that there was no mix up with the stone, that it is in fact the right stone... there''s no way they could have sent the wrong one. They have told me it was checked twice to ensure the diamond has been properly graded. And the jewelry stores are apparently going to knock the stone because they want me to think it is inferior to their products. I WORK IN A JEWELRY STORE.... I look at diamonds every day, I don''t have a vested interest and neither do my co-workers! I mean we''re not gemologists but pretty sure I know a yellow stone when I see it. We compared it to other stones with AGS certs, EGL cert, all the other hokey small gem lab certs, and it is night and day.... I''ve been told I can return it if I am not happy... I am going to hunt down a gemologist, or a least try....

Sparkle- so sorry this happened! I have an AGS000 J color and there isn''t a whit of color.

BN has excellent customer service, so I''d get it appraised first before sending it back (to avoid that hassle and shipping charges).

Good luck!

Carrie

Sparkle- do you own a loupe? Or since you work in a jewelry store, you must have them there. Take the cert and track the inclusions with the loupe to atleast rule out a stone mix up. Once that''s been verified, then deal with the color issue.
