I am searching for a princess stone and came across the following 1.05 carat stone and am wondering if anyone has bought from Diamonds on Web or if there is pos/neg buzz about them. Also, does this seem like a good find for the buck. One last question...what does the last number in measurments mean? Thanks in advance.

Customized setting is available. Please consult your selected jeweler during your appointment.
Inspect your diamond in person with your trusted jeweler. No money down, no commitment to buy.

The measurements are Length X Width X Depth in millimeters.

I haven't personally used them, but to the best of my knowledge, Diamonds on the Web is a reputable company. I know people who have used them. They had DOW ship the diamonds sent to a local jeweler where they went and previewed them in person prior to selection. I understand the DOW is now offering a purchase discount if you will accept delivery directly instead of having the diamond shipped to a jeweler for preview. DOW offers life-time upgrades, but I don't remember much more about their policies.

On this particular Princess Cut, the depth and table %'s look very nice. The L:W ratio is good as well. One thing is troubling. The wide variance on the girdle thickness. Extremely thin to slightly thick. A more even girdle would be a better choice in a Princess Cut. To get a better opinion on the make of this diamond, you would need to post the Crown Height % if you have that info available.

Here's a link to the Cut Chart for Princess Cuts:

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc1.asp

The Cut Chart is really a set of guidelines of what to look for in the screening process. Princess Cuts really need to be seen in person to fully evaluate performance. An Ideal Scope image would also be very useful to determine light leakage and predict performance.

There are several Vendors on Price Scope that hand select and stock Princess Cuts. The diamonds have been professionally evaluated and chosen for performance.

Just for comparison, here are some diamonds I found. Take a look at the info provided to get a feel for what you need to be looking for.

The 0.9 carat was as close as Good Old Gold had available in terms of size.

Feel free to post any further questions you may have. Someone will be glad to help.

I just wanted to say a quick thank-you for such a thorough response! I REALLY appreciate the advice/links and will probably have a few more questions. Also, I researched DoW through BBB (Better Business Bureau)and they are recognized as a reliable company. I like DoW's 30 day return policy, the fact that they are a BBB member and like you said, they offer a discount if you buy the rock direct. Anyway, thanks again. I'll be returning the stone with the 83% table!!

Any time Cwelu!! Glad to help out!

DOW does offer a nice service for net buyers. They do tend to be a bit pricier than Price Scope Vendors, but DOW is reputable. You won't send your money and get thin air.

My husband and I purchased my diamond from DOW. We are very happy with our purchase. The staff were very professional and helpful. Mostly I spoke with Analee. She was very helpful and patient with us while we made our decision.

While doing our search prior to purchse I had found diamonds listed on DOW site cheaper on other peoples sites. When I asked DOW about this Analee told me DOW owns all of the diamonds they list on thier website. If I tried to purchase from another company, That company would have to get the diamond from DOW.

Months after making our purchase, Analee sent me an email asking about our wedding/anniversary date so DOW could send a gift. I replied with our wedding date. The moring of our wedding I recieved a dozen red roses form DOW.

I highly recommend this company. Good luck with your purchase.

They look like any other drop-shipper, using the same virtcert search engine as all the rest. I highly doubt that they own ANY of the diamonds listed. I also take issue with the assertion that they are "wholesalers".

There is a lot of typical marketing crap on their site and precious little on cut information or education.

Maybe one of the vendors here has looked into teaming up with them. They seem to be saying to vendors, "you are going to lose the diamond sale to the internet so you might as well get the chance to sell a setting by letting us drop ship directly to you."

I have no knowledge of their business practices, but I would not buy from them just because my bull***t meter kept going off as I browsed their site.

I would pass on any princess with an ex thin girdle no matter who was selling it.

The potentual for damage is just too great.
Also it might be impossible to insure them some day.
There was an article posted here not long ago about some insurnace companies possible not insuring them that have less than a med girdle because of way above average breakage.
