What does everyone think of this Harry Winston classic elongated cushion? I am not able to try it on and have always thought I wanted round until I recently realized this feels so much more "me"

Looks like a nice crushed ice style cushion, but not particularly elongated.

it's not insanely elongated but definitely more than the square cushions I tried previously

Looks like a nice combination. One thing I personally prefer is to match the faceting of the center to the side stones. In this case, maybe a cushion brilliant would work better than a crushed ice cushion or even an antique cushion.
Good luck!

So you like the way it sparkles? Have you seen it in normal daylight or incandescent light not just pot lighting?

To be honest, I do not know much about engagement rings but know that I do not care for it to be overly sparkly, I'd prefer more of a candlelit glow than something super fiery but again, im not picky. What do you think?

This is a nice ring, no doubt. However, my eyes keep snagging on a slight visual mismatch between the look of the center stone and the side stones. Something about the crushed ice of the cushion and the long lines of the side stones is throwing me off. Of course this is a matter of personal preference, so by no means a dealbreaker for others. Just my ten cents. The cushion itself is beautiful with its slight elongation.

If I wanted a candlelit glow, I'd probably look for an old cut with a bit of warmth, if I'm reading the meaning of your statement correctly. Or is it the crushed ice look that gives you what you are calling candlelit?

Crushed ice faceting isn’t my personal preference. Ideally you want a diamond that you just adore gazing at. Which means you want light play that appeals to you. I enjoy watching contrast and scintillation and I enjoy the slight chaos of antique diamonds. Since this is a large purchase you may want to educate your eyes a bit more. Look at all kinds of different cuts in different lighting (pot lights, by a window in natural light, shades under a table) and see which cut makes you swoon.

Interesting point! It doesn't bother me because I view the side stones as almost like a frame to the center stone if that makes sense!

Good to know! I tried on almost every cut imaginable and I think for me, the most important things are that its not overly blingy (nothing in 1ct gave me that vibe) even in store lighting and that the shape of the center stone is soft and rounded. I'm not too picky about the faceting

I think just anything that gives a softer look than what the round brilliant gives off is what im after

Then pick what you like! Did you look at step cuts like emerald cuts of Asschers? The faceting gives a soft light play.

This way of choosing diamonds in entirely foreign to me so I don’t have much useful advice lol

Have you seen antique diamonds? If you are set on HW or Tiffany it’s moot bc they don’t sell them though…

Yes! I would probably go that route if I didnt love HW's designs and the brand so much in general. It feels very special to me

It sounds like a nicely made crushed ice style diamond is perfect for you. Many people love the twinkling kind of light performance they display. They feature myriad tiny virtual facets, which are the reflections we actually and are far more numerous than the physical facets on the diamond. If you want elongated, you might look at radiant cuts as well as cushions.

Yes, I think "twinkle" was the word I was looking for, I love that. I actually did try on a radiant but felt that it was way too severe on me. I don't love harsh shapes and felt it was too rectangular

I meannnnn…. Vintage HW exists from the mid century and antique Tiffany exists, but I think they are $$$ even beyond modern rings from those houses.

That's true! I don't think id want a vintage setting though. Like an antique diamond set in a new setting is fine but if I'm going HW I'd personally rather just get it new!

Sounds like you know what you want then!

Consider asking them if they can let you see a few rings with the cushion cut you like to compare and then you can pick the one with the cut you like best.

I tried on a square cushion and disliked it so I think the elongated cushion is the one for me!

Yes I meant ask them to let you select from among 3 or so elongated cushions as each will have slightly different appearance.

Just to clarify.... are these are actual pieces from Harry Winston, as opposed to "Harry Winston style"?
They're pretty! Just that people sometimes use a brand name to describe a style.

I think they do ovals beautifully :)

I have! I felt it was too slim looking and overall too trendy
