Happy Thanksgiving all! Hope you have a wonderful day with family and those closest to your heart.

Turkey's going in the oven soon, plus having ham as well. Mashed turnip, garlic mashed potatoes, both in and out stuffing and gravy, roasted carrots, asparagus and 2 pies - apple and pumpkin! Yum!

Enjoy your day - where I am, it is a clear bright "pricescope banner" blue sky and the maples surrounding our home are on fire - reds, oranges, yellows and a bit of green. We even have burgundy leaves now on the sumac and a deep almost "Mahenge spinel" pinkish red on the burning bush!! Its a beautiful day!

HI:

We are going out for dinner, but I will make a pumpkin pie. Just starting the pastry now...but the butter needs to be a bit softer...

cheers--Sharon

I am not Canadian but HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Hi Enerchi!

I'm not Canadian, but I just wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to you. You are always so nice and sweet to everybody. Enjoy you holiday and have a glass for me. Since I'm on restriction ;)

Happy thanksgiving to you to!

I'm in the process of making my home made pumpkin pie. Pumpkins have been cleaned-seeds removed-and are currently in the oven cooking so I can remove the skins and puree it to being the filling. I'm SUPER excited-I hate pumpkin pie but after making this a few years ago I LOVE it. I had store bought last night and it was :knockout: and I couldn't finish it. So I'm really looking forward to a nice home made one. The best part is I make it in larger batches so I can freeze the filling. You can make bread with it-muffins-or more pies! Can't go wrong there ::)

Our house is smelling soooooo delicious right now--- turkey is awesome when its just about done --- yum!!!

I have all my kids here (I am VERY thankful for that!) and I have my mother visiting as well - another wonderful thing to be thankful for!

Vintage lover - your pumpkin pie sounds wonderful! It's DD's and my mother's absolute favourite pie... with whipped cream all over it! We also have a pie from The Big Apple - a mumble crumble ---- and that's gotta be my favourite!

Thanks Skippy and CharmedOne! Hope you are both enjoying your weekends and are thankful anyway, regardless of it being a 'regular day' or not! :halo:

Happy Turkey Day to all of You!

Sorry for my myopic, Stateside ignorance, but is the Canadian Thanksgiving story similar to that from the U.S.? It sounds like you eat similar foods...

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Enerchi! I made turkey dinner with all the fixings for my family, and feel very fortunate to have had a wonderful day. My house still smells very yummy!

eta: And yes, it is exactly the same as US Thanksgiving....just earlier.

I think we all should celebrate both!! :wavey: Thanksgiving is an awesome holiday....family, friends, lots of yummy food, and no present buying stress.

Absolutely agree. Its my favorite holiday and I would gladly repeat it several times/year. =)

Happy Thanksgiving! Sounds delicious, Enerchi!

For the americans, Canadian Thanksgiving arrives earlier since it's a celebration of the harvest season and done at the end of the harvest (which arrives earlier than in more southern climes!). :wavey:

Does your always fall on a Sunday, or do you get to make a four day weekend like us slovenly - but lucky - US folk?

It is actually today, Monday, and I believe it falls on the 2nd monday of October. You are not 'slovenly'!! That made me laugh!!

We had a great dinner! I don't cook but I clean up like nobody else!! While the family played games, I did my magic in the kitchen and restored it to normal in a very timely and efficient manner (hey, I gotta work with the skills I've got ;)) ). Our oldest son's girlfriend made a TDF blueberry cheesecake which was so light and fluffy with that delicious graham cracker crust, and home made butter tarts!!! I was very 'thankful' for her contribution and today, I've 'thank her' a couple more times :lickout: ... must walk the dogs AGAIN! (waddle waddle waddle!)

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all had a wonderful Canadian Thanksgiving! :appl: Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. :wavey:

HI:

Yes, can't beat the way the house smells! :lickout: The clean up bogs me down I must admit...

Roasted a duck today, made kugel and red cabbage. Cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie.. I like a change of pace for food, as we had turkey + stuffing at a restaurant last night.

cheers--Sharon

Well Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbors up North! You are all probably In a turkey coma!!! I wish I had realized sooner would have made turkey today too!
