Out now and the procedure was odd. I got a stent - and I had a stent about 10 years ago as well. The first one was easy - highly sedated, but no pain to speak of at all either during the procedure or after.
This one, I was very conscious, and during the procedure began to feel extreme chest pain. I broke into a sweat on the table and told the surgeon of the growing pain. He placed a stent for a 90% blockage. I've been out now for about 3 hours and the pain is not really subsiding. Down perhaps a little, I'm still about to be given morphine to reduce the pain and lessen the pain load on my heart. They're re-testing me for troponin - the chemical produced by the heart in response to damage - most commonly myo. infarction - so let's hope that score is 0 (which it is in a healthy body with no heart issues or extenuating circumstances).
EDIT Well, just spent a bunch of time going over the procedure with one of the cardiologists in the cath lab with me during the procedure, and iit appears parts of the plaque broke off during the procedure and I had what amounts to a small heart attack on the table. This should resolve with no lasting issues, but my troponin will likely be raised. The pain is ongoing and I'm about to get a small dose of morphine - to give my heart a rest, as much as anything else. I'm still hopeful of going home tomorrow, but we'll have to see.
I am so sorry that it was not an uneventful procedure. That they want to discharge you is an excellent sign. Prayers continue. Keep asking for the morphine or they won't give it!
@mrs-b My thoughts are with you. Get those pain meds and rest up.
Here is a photo my 9yo took earlier on. Hope it lifts your spirits at least a bit! x It's like a virtual bunch of flowers!
Good to have met - even remotely, a woman who can write about her heart attack while awaiting morphine! Be well, though all these measly itches & pinpricks ...
I'm sorry this wasn't a seamless procedure with no complications, and I'm sorry you're in pain. Keeping you in my thoughts and hopes for your recovery to go well, without any further troubles.
That isn't the great news I was hoping to hear, but glad it shouldn't be any lasting damage and they are monitoring everything. Hoping the morphine gives you a break from the pain and you are able to get some rest.
Ah jeez B...sorry to hear of the bumps in the road. Hoping you got some good pain meds and can get some rest now. One step at a time. Here's hoping for a big ole zero on troponin!
Ugh, I hate that you had pain/discomfort during and after!! I'm not usually the praying type but I will be praying for your comfortable, quick, and uneventful recovery! HUGS!
Well that just sucks, and I'm so sorry that the procedure wasn't a piece of cake! Rest up, and sending you more pixie dust so hopefully you will feel better very soon.
Continuous prayers being sent. My daughter is a cardiology nurse practitioner and she was explaining the procedure to me. Gosh, you have gone through a lot! Rest and get well soon.
How awful for you to have had that happen while you were on the operating table. Hope you can return home soon and rest and recover in your own time. On Friday, at the doctors, my blood pressure readings were extremely high. Now on reading about what's happened to you it really is a wakeup call for me of what can happen to us relatively young 60ish women.
I’m so sorry that the procedure wasn’t straight forward but really hoping you had a restful night and are on the road to recovery now. Hope the meds are keeping the pain under control and that you will be home to rest and recuperate as soon as possible with your (unbelievably sweet) DH.
Seeing that picture of you made me happy...despite the awful time you're having, you still maintain your sense of humour! Love it!
I'm so sorry you're feeling rotten. As someone who brings as much light and joy to people, it's so unfair that you are having such a hard time. As an OR nurse I sometimes work in cardiac cath lab, and it's no picnic for patients. Much love to you and your loving hubby.
Oy Mrs B! I’m so sorry that the procedure didn’t go as smoothly as it could have. Hope that your pain is under control and you are able to go home soon!
