Halo nightmare!

I was very excited to upgrade my 1 carat princess cut solitaire for our 1 yr anniversary. I love the Cushing halo look. I have to be honest I do not know much about setting jewelry. So Ring one picked out what I felt was very pretty setting, sales associate took lose diamond out of case and laid it on setting and said that’s what it will look like. Went to pick up ring a week later and though it was a joke. The diamond was sitting so high out of setting, I was so upset. So, they suggested I come back to diamond show a week later when jeweler was on site and try to figure something out. So, I went back yesterday they say my diamond would never fit into that halo so of course I needed to pick another one out. Ring # 2 So, I have to say I love setting of second choice and they felt very confident they stone coukd sit done much further and I would be happy. Well, it does sit down further but still a little more then I like. My choice is again to pick another setting..ugh or they can try to send it out to jeweler that has laser setting. So, my question is can laser setting really get the diamond to set lower? Sorry long story. I think I could be happy with way it is now, not what I pictured but I think it’s very pretty but I would like it to be as low as possible. Thoughts...much appreciated! Usually, people like to have their diamond set with the girdle at ... or just slightly above ... the halo. Setting the stone lower makes the stone and setting look more seamlessly integrated -- and avoids knocking hazards.

Your stone's girdle appears to be several millimeters higher than the halo.

Here are some examples. However, note that some jewelers only have a certain level of skill. So there's that.

Oh no, sorry this happened.

My diamond is set with the girdle just a tiny bit above the halo so that the AGS inscription lasered on the girdle can be seen under 30x magnification. Unlike many others, I have an open gallery for easy cleaning.

It looks to me that your diamond should fit just above the crown line of the stone, if they set the head down lower & shorten the prong length on the head. This head should fit snugly inside the halo, and could be low enough to cradle your stone at just the right height to fit inside that space. I don’t understand why they believe it won’t fit....

My concern is that they have already shown you that they do not have the skill or knowledge to set the stone as you like. Are you comfortable telling us the larger cities nearby and maybe we can recommend a reputable jeweler?

Lots of technical details aside...the main benefit of a laser welder is that very little heat moves away from the area of work. Conventional soldering requires everything get pretty hot. Diamonds overheated can burn (it will look like frosting or milky deposit that won't rub off).

Personally, I prefer a laser welder conducting repairs for those reasons. If the setting is platinum, they also need to exactly match the alloy (think of this as a recipe) or you may visually see a line where the two are joined. If white gold, the underlying alloy is less critical.

Can you get a refund and walk away and start over? I also do not think that the vendor has a bench capable of setting the diamond properly.

This exactly all that tells me is that the people you have selected have no clue how to set a diamond seamlessly down into a setting in the way you want. Get as much of a refund as possible and start over somewhere that can.
