I need some cute ideas for holiday decorations. I haven''t collected much over the years because I lived in apartments and moved alot until I got married four years ago.

I live in a neighborhood where a lot of people decorate outside for Halloween but I just don''t know where they get all these great things. I rarely see them anywhere. I did get some cute gel like things that you stick to the windows. They are ghosts and bats. I am not a do it yourself kind of person - not crafty. Any suggestions?

i actually have a ton of halloween stuff that i have picked up here and there over the years, but i hardly ever remember to put it out, it''s kind of funny. also redenvelope.com has stuff typically and one year thye had a big 50% clearance after Halloween and i got a ton of things.

we were just in los gatos a few weeks ago, this small kitschy town with boutique stores all over and there were a ton of stores that had a lot of halloween decor going on! super cute stuff too...but i was thinking no way am i going to get sucked into this when i don''t even put out the stuff i have now! but yeah it seems like H decor is getting more mainstream for sure. cute stuff not just the typical drugstore decor we used to always see.

one of our neighbors last year got those fake tombstones that go in the dirt and put them all outside their fence with some of those orange peeping eyes in the bushes, it was really cute.

now we just typically do our pumpkins and put out one or two big scary witch items from my stash like the day before halloween. maybe one year i''ll remember to pull out all my stuff and actually set it up!

My DH and kids love halloween. We have quite a few decorations. My taste is not, ahem, the same as theirs. I like Pottery Barn for cute crows, spider votives etc. PB Kids has a lot of indoor decor still available. At least it did last week. I was there twice. Z Gallerie has a lot, too. The kids love the scary stuff so I have them put it out just before halloween because I can''t stand looking at hands sticking out of the ground for too long. They stretch spider webs (sticky cottony stuff) across the entry way and put plastic spiders in it. And yes, jack o'' lanterns are a must. Target and Party City (or someplace like it) may have some yard decorations. Good luck decorating!!

You can get those orange net lights at target, and they look really awesome if you put them on the bushes outside your house. My mom always liked to do a Halloween windsock (never understood it) and they usually looked really cute. Another cute thing to do is go to your local farmers market and pick up some gourds, pumpkins, and Indian corn then lay them out on your front porch in a little cornucopia... more autumn than Halloween. Those tombstones you can put outside are really awesome too... oh there''s just SO much stuff! I love Halloween!! Try Michaels too... they have some pretty autumn/halloween wreaths. But definitely go to Target first. DH went CRAZY when he got to the Halloween section, so watch out!

I got some fun things this year for outdoor decor...usually I just do pumpkins and we carve them the week before Halloween and that''s it, but this year DH was at a Bears game a few weeks ago on a beautiful sunny Sunday and I decided to do some shopping--I went to our local Ace Hardware and picked up two scarecrow things on bamboo sticks (like tiki torch sticks, lol), stuck them on either side of our front steps where I had cut back the perennial shasta daisies, then I went to one of those parking lot pumpkin dealers and got 3 white pumpkins and 3 orange ones to sit on our six steps, along with a bale of hay to sit our outdoor electric jack-o-lantern we''ve had for a couple years. I picked up a couple of boxes of orange lights at K-Mart for less than $10 and strung them on our three little bushes underneath the picture window next to the front steps, and at TJ Maxx I found the cutest little coir mat for $6--it''s black and white with a ghost on it and says "knock, knock, Boo''s there?" So cute. Lastly, I zip-tied some bunches of Indian corn to the railings on the steps, and hung my Halloween mini flag on it''s pole on the side of the house. We live in a neighborhood with lots of families, and it seems like everyone goes all out for Halloween. There are a ton of tiny little front yards (like ours, lol) with those huge inflatable figures, which cracks me up because they take up like the entire front yard. The cutest outdoor decor I''ve seen in the neighborhood was on the front of a Georgian like ours--she has these spooky purple lights wrapped around her front step railings and cobwebs all over--it looks so neat after dark. Very unique amongst all the orange lights and inflatable decorations!

Indoors I don''t do anything crazy. I have a few things I set out on top of the piano and t.v. armoire, and on the entryway glass table, and I like to get fall bouquets at the grocery store to put in vases here and there. I would love to collect more and more as the years go by, but I have to keep in mind that we have limited storage space! I always wonder where people put all their decorations when they have so much stuff on display!

Target, as someone else mentioned, is a good place to find things, as well as TJ''s, Marshalls, or Stein Mart. HTH!

Mums and pumpkins are what I would put out.

I say would because last year I put them out and my pumpkin got stolen and somebody picked all the flowers off my mums.

We''re boycotting halloween decorations this year. I''m still too traumatized to go through it again.

Ha ha Sumbride, as soon as DH saw that I had put pumpkins out on the front steps he was like, "wonder how long those will last before some punk kid comes along and smashes them?"

They''ve been out for over two weeks now, and I''m keeping my fingers crossed. I have little doubt that that is exactly what will happen, though, this coming weekend. Unless I stand guard at the living room window there''s really nothing to keep it from happening. Oh well...I guess the squirrels will have fun eating them anyway.

I''ll keep my fingers crossed for your pumpkins!!! I actually expected mine to get smashed, but it was just GONE one morning. Somebody saved themselves a trip to the store. Luckily I got it for $4 at Safeway, rather than some fancy pumpkin-patch trip, but still, it HURT to see it gone. I said "See... this is why we can''t have nice things!" and then laughed hysterically at myself!
