Hi, ladies! Until a few weeks ago, I had no idea this forum even existed, and I think it is WONDERFUL. I've been needing friends to talk to about my pre-engagement craziness that can actually empathize with me! My BF has taken to rolling his eyes every time I mention my ring or wedding-related plans, so I think maybe that means he is tired of hearing about it? hehe
So, anyway, I guess I should start with our story...
I've known my BF for about four years. He was the roommate/frat brother/good friend of my best friend's now husband. I had met him once or twice before he graduated and moved 7 hours away for grad school. I never really thought about him as a potential boyfriend, because at the time I was actually kind of seeing someone else. Thankfully, it did not work out with the other fellow. Around a year later, he came back for his old roommates graduation, which also fell on Cinco de Mayo. Of course, we all went out and had too good of a time. All night, I noticed him staring at me, and he told me he like my shirt (lol). We ended sharing one of our favorite beers, holding hands, and I got a most gentlemanly good night kiss. The next day he had to go back to grad school, but we stayed in constant contact until I drove to see him two months later. The 2nd night I was there, we had a delicious seafood dinner, went for a walk on the beach, and he asked me to be his girlfriend while sitting beside the Atlantic. Very sweet.
For the first (almost) two years of our relationship, we were apart. We tried to see each other at least once a month, which was very hard both in terms of logistics and emotionally. But we made it happen, he got his masters, and we finally got our own place last March in the town where I am still going to school.
One year ago, we went ring shopping at the most renowned jewelry store in our area. I went in with one solid idea of what I wanted and came out with a completely different idea that was about $10,000 more that what we had talked about I fell in love with the "Paris" setting from Michael B. Long story short, we did not get engaged! We actually went through a severe rough patch. I think it was a combination of not only adjusting to living together, but also getting used to just being a normal couple that got to see each other every day and do normal couple things! I'm glad that we didn't get engaged last year, because we are much stronger as a couple now, and we both feel ready for it.
We've been talking about it a lot lately., but I'm still not sure when it is going to happen. After looking at several different diamonds, diamond alternatives, and settings; we have finally decided on a magnificent setting from Dimend SCAASI with a 1.5 ctw round brilliant. I could not be more excited, although, I am worried about DSS setting in quickly! I have a size 6 finger, so I've been scanning through SMTB to look at comparison shots. I know for a fact he hasn't ordered yet, and I'm not sure when he will. He is so sloooow when it comes to big purchases, and it is driving me a little crazy. I need support!
Anyway, that's my story!
