Hello there,
I am getting ready to purchase a Princess cut diamond and I found this at Blue Nile. Its almost too good to pass up. I have a few questions but here are the details.

Carat weight: 1.15
Cut: Very Good
Color: I
Clarity: VS2
Depth %: 73.2%
Table %: 71%
Pavillion %: 11.4%
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Girdle: Thin to medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 5.76x5.67x4.15 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.02

Price is $4631.00

The ring is going to be mounted in a Platinum ring similiar to the Tiffany Lucida.

My concern is the "I" color. As I cannot see the ring until I receive it.. Does anyone thing I should be worried. I really don''t want a noticibly yellow diamond. I really want something that looks really good and unless you are closly inspecting it, you won''t notice the color. I have not see an "I" colored diamond in person so I''m having a hard time with this.

I used the accreditied gem appraiser site and it classisifed it as Ideal cut. Is this pretty accurate?

Also, does anyone know the content of the Platinum used on Blue Nile''s rings? It just says 950 platinum. I''ve read that platinum rings made with Iridium are stronger than ones made with Ruthenium.

Thanks again!!

Did you mean a crown of 11.4%, not pavilion? I sure hope so or this is the shallowest stone ever (which does not look to be the case according to the dimensions)!

Other than that, these numbers look great, which will really help the "I" color look much better

I don't know if you've seen my stone, but it's a 3.22 ct "I" color princess, and it's spectacular if I don't say so myself! It faces up EXTREMELY white, with just a touch of warmth. In other words, it doesn't show any yellow (not even in the corners), just some warmth in certain lighting (especially yellow lighting--but in the same lighting my "D" color RB earrings also look fairly warm). The best analogy for understanding color seems to be the color of white paint people use in their homes. There can be that stark white paint or the standard Arizona paint (or whatever it's called) that is a little warmer shade. While I have seen some stones that are "I" color that have a slight yellow tint, they have been poorly cut stones with tables and depths that are too large (above 75%). If your stone is GIA certified and a great cut, you don't have much to worry about--just make sure you both will be fine with a stone that, in some light, will be a little warm. Oh, and I've compared my stone to several "G's" and a couple "F's", and my stone faced up just as white

So, just ask BN if the stone faces up really white and if they say yes you're in the clear!

BTW, do you have an ideal scope image of your stone to make sure there's not a lot of light leakage and that there's a good amount of scintillation?

Thanks for the catch... Yes I did mean crown height! Whew, that would of been bad.

The stone is Gia certified which made me feel a whole lot better. I do appreciate the info about it facing up white. I will be sure to ask so they can check. Sounds like they have another building that houses all their diamonds.

In regards to the ideal scope image of the stone or to check for a good amount of scintillation, they do not list that on their site. I noticed a website such as niceice does. I'll ask BN if there is anyway to produce these images because I would be very curious about it.

I have read up as much information about diamonds and have found the online sites to be a much better resource for information and value than our local jewerly stores. Hopefully this one pans out!

btw, how do I see your diamond?

You should definitely try to get an ideal scope image! If you can't, purchase an ideal scope so you can take a look at your stone on your own. It's amazing how many stones had looked good to me by the numbers until I saw the ideal scope results!

Good luck with your stone! What setting are you considering?
