I don''t think I''ve ever posted this before so I wanted to share. My grandmother left this to me when she passed... it is garnets in 14k gold. The cluster looks to be a seperate piece that is held on somehow since the cluster itself wiggles a bit. My mom kept it until I was old enough to appreciate it. It was missing 2 stones and filthy... they had the stones replaced and the ring polished for my 20th birthday.

Does anyone know about how old it is? I have no clue if its something she had since she was a young lady or if it was purchased in recent decades. She passed away around 1995.

I''d appreciate any guesses about how old it may be. You can see in the first picture that one stone (on the left) is a bit smaller and cut differently... like a star pattern on the top or something. I believe that stone was there when my grandmother died... I don''t think it was one of the one''s my mom had replaced. Also, the center stone has a large scratch across the top.

How wonderful that you have that treasure from your grandmother!!

It looks like it''s from the 1960s, to me. Just a guess, though.

The stone you''re referring to is a rose cut, which was a popular cut for diamonds in the late 19th century-early 20th century. That stone looks like a later rose cut, though, maybe from the 20s-50s? I suspect it was used to replace one of the other stones that had gotten lost.

very easy to date...this style of ring was very popular (especially with garnets, opals, pearls or a combination of these gems together)in the early to mid 1970s....was high fashion in the late 1960s and then main stream popularity by the 70s.

That''s what I thought at first... but aren''t rose cuts flat on the bottom? This one isn''t. Thanks for your thoughts!

You''re right that it''s not a rose cut, cause they also don''t have a table facet. Maybe Glitterata meant to say old european cut, but to me it doesen''t look like that one either.

That''s a beautiful ring. How sweet to have something from your grandmother that is lovely!

Hm. Are we talking about the same stone? Maybe you could take another photo or two?

Maybe it''s set crooked?

In any case, I love that ring, and how lovely to have something so pretty to remember your grandmother by.

A see a flat table in the center garnet so I doubt it''s a rose cut. Still, the design is very sweet.

Your ring is beautiful!!! What a treasure to remember your grandmother by.
