This ring belonged to my sweet dear Grandmother. I love it so much...I'm almost afraid to wear it because it has so much sentimental value, but, I manage. Garnet was her birthstone. It is also one of my boys' and my daughter's birthstone. I don't know any of the specs, but I do know that the diamonds are very white (there's a huge difference between my H and these babies) and very sparkly. I have three pics.
ETA: Three BIG pics...Sorry!

What a lovely ring! How nice that your children share her birthstone.

You should add it to the Family Heirloom thread!

I LOVE your ring. What a treasure it is.

I have two of my grandma''s rings, both are from 1921. Oh how I miss her.

It looks just like Princess Diana''s ring (cept garnet, which is actually my sons b-stone.. I love that color). I always loved that style, its classic, elegant and beautiful.. I love it, simply love it.

I thought the same thing! It is a very timeless setting

Thank you all for your replies. You are all so sweet. I do love this ring. My dad just gave me an oval garnet that I am trying to find a pendant setting for...What good is a ring if you don''t have a necklace to go with it!

Colors do not always come out well over the internet.

However, that looks green to me. There are two forms of green garnet.

Demantoid and Tsavorite.

If it was your grandmothers - and she got it many many years ago - there is a good chance that it is Russian Demantoid - which would be worth a fair amount (Tsavorite is worth a fair amount too).

I note that it seems to be fairly large - especially for Demantoid (and large means worth more).

One thing to look for - do you see (either by eye or with a loop) any "horsetail" whispy inclusions. That would be a positive identification of Demantoid (but not all Demantoid has those inclusions).

Either way - it looks to be a grand ring. If it is green garnet - you may wish to get it appraised. If its horsetail demantoid - I hope you are sitting down when they tell you what it could be worth...

It isn''t green, it''s red...Very deep red. Funny that it came out green on your monitor, they sure do vary. I''m sure that changes the value. Maybe I''ll have it appraised. Thanks so much for your input, Perry.

Ah well.... I''m partially color blind as well - but normally I can see deep red (at least I can see red cars, red dresses, and red blood) - although there are some "off" shades of red that confuse me...

While it would not likely be worth what a green garnet is (and nothing like what horsetail Demantoid would be). It may not be the worst idea to get it appraised anyway.

It''s still a great looking ring.
