Last week, my husband and I had the pleasure of presenting at our daughter's Career Day. While we were checking in, I saw another speaker's name that looked familiar, so I asked one of the teachers what career he was presenting: Diamond Broker.

Putting two and two together, I realized that the elementary school students were getting a talk from John Pollard of Crafted by Infinity.

I introduced myself and he very graciously showed me some of his diamonds. Talk about surreal: I got my first in-person use of the ASET and H&A viewer in the hallway of an elementary school, looking at superideals. I've seen lots of ASETs here and on vendor sites, but there is absolutely nothing like seeing it in person - the subtle variances in the shades of colors were so striking. And to see a K that faced up so white because of the perfect optics was simply amazing.

John, thank you for absolutely making my day (week, month...). I don't know if the teachers or the kids know exactly what they got to see, but I did and I'm really grateful for how generously you shared your time and expertise.

How cool is that??!! =)

That is AWESOME. And John is just amazing at teaching and so knowledgeable and approachable.
Wish he'd shown up at my career day. Might have saved me a lot of money on schooling.

My goodness, talk about a small world! How cool - How nice you had a chance to meet John (and his diamonds lol), he is so nice and gracious in his posts, sounds like he is IRL as well!

What a wonderful, chance meeting! Bet it was a fascinating lesson!

How amazing! What an awesome opportunity and how fun that you got to play at career day!

How neat! What an awesome opportunity.

Wow, it really does seem to be a small world :D lol

That is very cool, it's great to meet your 'heroes', especially when they actually turn out to be nice people and not stuck up their own ....!

Wish I was there!.. 8-)

That is SO cool!!!!! At least there was someone there that would have really appreciated what he was doing!!!!

You and your husband volunteered and look what you got! =) Good karma, definitely!

wow I so wish I could experience that and have met him

That is like the coolest career day speaker ever. :appl:

I got outed a little to my husband, too. I don't think he realized quite how interested in diamonds I am until that moment.

Yeah, way cooler speaker than HR Consultant. Even my own kid told me so!

Well, color me late to school and give me a tardy...!

I'm just seeing this (PS, where's the "tag" feature?). What a fun happenstance that was, running into MonkeysInk!

Since I'm active as a district mentor, and work regularly with the L.D. Bell High School Band, I was not surprised when a nice young lady "recognized my name" at a school function. Imagine my headspin when MonkeysInk told me she knew me from Pricescope. Too funny!

It was great to meet you and your husband. Hope I didn't blow the cover too far off your "habit" here ;) And it was my pleasure to show you a few first-class firecrackers there in the hallway outside the recorder-class playing the C-Major scale. If you hadn't peeked at the parcel-paper I was going to ask what color you imagined that 1.24 was. Usually I never let someone know the carat-color-clarity of something I'm showing - more fun that way! It's good to know the impression was still robust.

I also have to say that 5th and 6th graders are extremely perceptive. They followed my "mine to market" presentation with ease, answered the prepared questions well - and asked some really good questions of their own. Most notable takeaway for me that morning? ...The boys in the class were just as excited by the topic as the girls.

Maybe it's a good zip-code for PS sponsors to target. ;)

Ha ha, get 'em early and young! It's so cool you saw a CBI K color. I saw a K too and it's kinda surreal mentioning I like K's now especially in this forum, cause the majority might say Ewww! But it looked awesome to me and quite white and bright!

Learning the essentials at school...the ABCs and the Four Cs! :appl: :appl:

Small world indeed. I work with a guy who graduated from L.D. Bell in the late '70s. His dad was an air traffic controller at D/FW.
John, it's nice to hear you'll come over to the other side of the metroplex.
