Hi posting from the small island of Singapore. From surfing around the web, I realize that in the US , most of you are buying > 0.5carat diamonds.

I am interested in getting a smaller diamond of a good quality and ideal cut. In the range of 0.2 carat to 0.4 carat. Have any of you come across these kind of diamonds around? Most of what I see in the online stalls are >0.4carat.

there are hundreds and hundreds in that range. use the pricescope search, enter your criteria. remember to change the minimum budget to something like 1 (if you leave it alone, it will only return those stones costing more than 1000.) and then hit the in-house search.

There are literally thousands of certed (GIA/AGS) well cut diamond rounds available at any given time.

Have you tried www.whiteflash.com ?! I just searched and came up with 3 pages full of round H&A diamonds size .2-.4. What shape are you looking for?

Hi gt,

I''m from the sunny island of Singapore too.

I''m looking at vivodiamonds (www.vivodiamonds.com) Have you heard of them?
They are a local firm that does pretty much what places like WF are doing.
Am arranging to meet them and they will get their diamond specialist to come look for me.
Sounds like they know their stuff, they will be bringing down sarin reports, ideal scope pictures etc etc

They have a quite few of 0.2 - 0.4 "signature ideal" diamonds, AGS certified, at rather reasonable prices.
You might want to check them out.

Maybe we can share our experiences together, hehe

Hi there, when you meeting up with the Vivo diamonds person??Do update me on how it goes. I just started on my search.

what range are you looking for ?You think Vivo will give a good deal?? I will go walk about Singapore and have a look around before deciding anything.Have a first hand look at the diamonds out there but I reckon getting a diamond and setting will probably be cheaper.

heello,

Nope, not yet. Trying to arrange for a meeting next week. Seems like they are pretty busy too.

I''m looking for diamonds in about the 0.5 carat range. They price seems reasonable, comparable to WF and JA etc.
But one thing that i notice (not sure if it really matters or not), is that their signature diamonds have HCA of about 1, don''t get to see many having lesser than 1. Also, i notice that they don''t really have many better than VSS2 diamonds.

But service until now has been rather prompt, although they don''t seem to answer all the questions that i have. Probably very busy, or i asked one too many questions.

I beleive you have read the other posts, and my expereince would tend to agree: the usual retailers you can find out there and that do advertise, are usually very expensive and not worth their price tag.
But don''t trust me, go walk in and take a look. I''ve seen some that are rather good, HCA of 1.8, but i can the same quality stone for much chaper than from WF and JA. And some which shops claim to be H&A, but i defintely do not see any symmetrical A.

I have been looking for a diamond somewhat in that range also. There are plenty, it is just hard to narrow them down.

This is a good route on smaller well cut stones.

Sure there are good diamonds in this size! For PSers in the US, it's the size of their earrings

so plenty of people are looking for them.

This one is on the larger side of what you want, but it's a good example of what's out there and very easy to find.

Have you tried looking at Good old gold for their diamonds? According to people around here they have pretty good service and quality.

I had a look at Vivo-diamonds online. They don''t really have a lot of quantity to look from . I went to citigems at Vivocity. They have a pathetic number of engagement rings to choose from in the range I wanted. And I am not impressed by the diamonds there either for their price range that is .

0.5ct is a good size for an engagement ring. Haha... me want a small but good quality one. Do have a look at these two . Let me know what you think.

Are you set on a D colour, IF clarity stone?

Both appear to be well cut stones, but hopefully others will chime in as well.

hi, i''m from sg too, just bought a 0.84 carat D-IF for my ering from a US online shop a couple days ago...

checked out vivo and their pricing.. if you are one of those people who just don''t feel right ordering something from the overseas through the internet, then i would say vivo is providing a great service and at prices that are still much lower than the B&M shops in sg...

but on the other hand, if you''re comfortable and confident enough to buy it yourself from the US, then i suggest you might as well because not only will you have a lot more to choose from, you''ll be saving some money as well... in my case the difference is enough to pay for the 18k WG 0.25ctw G/H VS2/SI1 diamond double pave wedding band which i also bought from the US...

my two cents...

That''s great to hear. So you bought the diamond got it set at the same vendor?? or sent the diamond to a separate vendor ?? How did you decide on the setting??

Ya I found that US stores have more selection , more then vivo. But Vivo you can visually inspect the diamond before purchase which is a plus point .

Can anyone comment on the service at Vivodiamonds ?

yeah i got it set at the same vendor..

for the "why", i got it set at the same place is mainly so that the return policy from the vendor will cover the entire thing, and i won''t have to risk a 3rd party jeweler accidentally damaging the stone.. also i won''t have to lose sleep worrying about my diamond being swapped (paranoid?) since the one i chose does not come with inscription... but i was told settings (without diamonds) are actually cheaper if you can get it done by a trusted jeweler in sg.. and it would be more convenient as well if you need to resize your ring or do repairs / maintenance..

as for the "how", personally i chose the setting after "accidentally" showing various ring designs to my gf and gathering her response to each type (though i suspect she is totally aware of what i''m trying to do)..

but besides the preference in style you would also need to consider other factors.. solitaire to highlight your main stone or side stones / pave for that extra bling... i chose a solitaire coz i''m already getting a double pave wedding band for her and if the ering is side stone or paved as well, i''m worried if there would be too much bligk (but is there such a thing as too much bling in the first place? haha)..

setting style is also important.. 4 prongs? 6 prongs? bezel? chanel? i thought a 4-prong looks nice and admits more light but a colleague in the office ever had her rock knocked right out of her (you guessed it, 4-prong) ring while typing on a computer (the cleaner was vacuuming the carpet at the cubile right next to hers so you can imagine her panic), so i settled for a 6-prong..

then materials, 14k or 18k white gold, yellow gold, pandullum, platinum... width and thickness, these together with the diamond size and even the size of the finger itself will determine how the ring looks on the finger...

i can go on and on but i personally feel a huge part of the fun comes from doing the research yourself and the satisfaction of finally finding that one perfect stone and ring... i used to think diamonds are diamonds but ever since i started my journey in search (and research) of my ering i have totally fallen in love with the subject and everyday it just excites me more and more.. haha... i wouldn''t be surprised if i were to get myself a big-yellow bling after getting her her D-IF.. haha...

have fun...
